Logging out

You can log out of the service by clicking Sign Out in the application. Adobe Story prompts you to save the unsaved scripts and the latest user preferences.

Installing the Adobe Story desktop application

The Adobe Story desktop application helps you work with Adobe Story even when you are not connected to the internet.

1. After you log into Adobe Story, select Projects > Install Desktop Application in the Projects view. You can also download the desktop application from the Home page or the File menu in the Authoring view.

2. Click Install Now and follow the instructions to install the application.

New features in this release

Multi-column scripts

In a multi column script, the contents of a script are divided across various columns. For example, you can create a script with separate columns for Scene Number, Video Description, and Audio.

Each multi-column script is associated with a template that defines the number of columns, and the elements in each column. A default two-column template is used if you do not customize the template when creating a script. You can save a template to your computer as an XML file. The file can be sent to other Adobe Story users who can import it when creating multi-column scripts.

Note: When saving multi column scripts to your computer, ensure that you save them in the STDOC format. The formatting of a multi column script is lost when it is exported as an ASTX file.

Create multi column script template

1. Do one of the following:

• In the Projects view, click New.

• In the Authoring view, select File > New.

2. In the Create New Document dialog, select Multi column Script.

3. Type a title for your script.

4. A default two-column template is created if you click Create. To create a custom template, click Change. In the Change Template dialog, perform the following actions according to your requirement.

• To edit column headings, double-click the heading. In the Assign Column Name dialog box, enter a name for the column heading.

• To add a new column, click the button. In the Assign Column Name dialog, enter the column heading.

• To delete a column, click the button in the corresponding column heading.

• To add elements to a column, double-click Add New Element. Select an option from the menu.

• To change an element in a column, double-click the element, and select an option from the menu.

• To delete elements in a column, click the corresponding “X” button.

• Select Landscape if you want a horizontal layout for the template. A horizontal template can accommodate more columns readily.

5. Do one of the following:

• Click the Save icon to save the template to the server.

6. In the Save Template dialog, enter a name for the Template.

7. Click OK.

To delete a template, select the template from the menu, and click Delete in the Change Template dialog.

Save multi column script template to disk

1. In the Change Template dialog, select the template you want to save from the menu.

2. Click Save The Template on Disk icon to save the template on your machine.

Import multi column script template

• To import templates, click the Import Template icon in the Change Template dialog box.

Customize multi column script

To save time, you can edit previously created templates to create new templates.

1. Do one of the following:

• In the Projects view, click New.

• In the Authoring view, select File > New.

2. In the Create New Document dialog, select Multi column Script.

3. In the Create New Document dialog box, select the template that you want to edit from the Template menu.

4. Click Change. In the Change Template dialog, edit the properties of the template according to your requirements.

5. Click Save. In the Save Template dialog box, enter a name for the template.

6. Click OK.

Write multi column scripts

A multi column script has two kinds of rows — rows for scene information and rows for shot information. Rows containing scene information are separated by black lines (row markers), and those containing shot information by gray lines (row markers). Row types specified as none are separated by light gray lines.

1. Enter text in the first column. The template associated with a script defines the elements, and their sequence in a column.

2. Do one of the following:

• To add an element in a column, use the keyboard shortcuts listed in the Insert menu.

• To change an element in a column, select an element type from the element menu.

• To move to the next paragraph, press Tab.

• To move to a previous paragraph, press Shift + Tab.

• To start a new scene, select Insert > New Scene > Video Description.

• To start a new shot, select Insert > Video Description.

Change row type

• To change the type for a row, select Insert > Row Type, and choose the desired option.

Show/hide row markers

• Select Insert > Row Markers, and select/deselect the desired option.

Custom breakdown reports

You can create a custom report by selecting elements you want listed in your report. Apart from elements, you can also choose special items such as tags, page number, and word count. The word count corresponds to the total number of words in the document.

You can choose from the following options when creating custom breakdown reports.

• Scene Number

• Scene Heading

• Split Scene Heading

• Scene Duration

• Action

• Characters

• Dialog

• Shot Number

• Shot Type

• Camera Number

• Camera Angle / Movement

• Shot Duration

• Tags

• Comments

• Page Number

• Word Count

1. Select Production > Breakdown Reports > Custom Report.

2. In the Custom Breakdown Report dialog, select the items that you want to capture in the report.

3. Click Create.

Note: If you select Split Scene Heading, Adobe Story captures the three parts of a scene heading (INT/EXT, Location, Time of Day) as separate columns in the report.

Save scripts to computer

Save local copies of your documents in Adobe Story on your computer. The document is saved in the STDOC format. When you import an STDOC file into Adobe Story, the formatting of the document is retained.

The STDOC file is not connected to the script on the server. After you change the file on the server, you must save the local copy again for the changes to be reflected.

Note: If you plan to use the file for integration with Premiere Pro and OnLocation, export it in the ASTX format.

1. Select File > Save To Disk.

2. Select a location on your computer to save the file.

Updates to existing featuresTagging

• More than one auto-tag can be applied to a word or phrase.

• After auto tagging, if Adobe Story finds elements in your script that map to deleted tags, you are prompted to restore the tags. Click Yes in the Add To Taglist dialog if you want Adobe Story to restore the deleted tags and use them for tagging. If you select No, elements corresponding to the deleted tags are not auto tagged.

Online-offline sync

• When the contents of a file in the online application and the offline application differ during sync, the Choose Working Document dialog appears. Use the dialog box to select your preferred version. You can choose to take a backup of the other version. The backup version is saved to the same project as the parent file.

Title page

• The formatting and elements of the title page of a script have been updated.

File import

• When you import a file using File > Import, the import dialog lists all the formats supported by Adobe Story.

Auto-tagging

• For scene elements, auto tags are applied only to action, parenthetical, and general elements.
