Adjusting Settings on the Canon HV40
Specific Settings for BoinxTV: Setting Camera Mode to DV Wide Screen (16:9)
FUNCTION -> Camera Setup -> REC/ IN Setup (Option 2) -> HD Standard -> DV Widescreen
General Settings: Selecting the Recording Program
Auto Select with Program Selector switch Switch is located on the left hand side
of the camera close to the lens Camcorder will take care of focus,
exposure and other adjustments no manual adjustments are possible
Flexible Recording Programs [P] Select with Program Selector switch
once in Flexible Recording Mode select sub-category:
1. P - Program AE• Camcorder automatically
adjusts Aperture and Shutter Speed
• Exposure, Focus & White Balance can be adjusted manually
2. Tv – Shutter Speed Priority 3. Av – Aperture Priority 4. Cine Mode 5. Portrait
General Settings: Using Manual Focus
1. Zoom all the way into the Telephoto End: frame the Eyes of the Talent
2. Press the mechanical Focus Button until “MF” appears on the screen
3. Adjust the Focus using the Focus Dial
4. Reframe the subject using the Zoom
Note: you will need to re-focus every time you move the camera or after turning it off

Adjusting Settings on the Canon HV40
General Settings: Custom White Balance
Procedure:
1. Point the Camera at a white sheet of paper
2. Zoom in until the paper fills the entire screen
3. Press the SET button on the Joystick
4. The symbol is flashing whilst the Camera adjusts the white balance
5. When the adjustment is completed the symbol stops flashing and stays on
6. Press the FUNCTION Button to save the settings and close the menu
Note: The Camera remembers the Custom White Balance even if you turn it off.
General Settings: Using Exposure Compensation
1. Press the SET button on the Joystick
2. Push the Joystick down towards Next until “EXP” appears
3. Push the Joystick towards Exposure (Up) -> the Exposure Adjustment Indicator appears -> use the joystick to adjust the Exposure:
• push Joystick left = darker• push Joystick right = brighter
Note: to reset Exposure to the Default (+/- 0) push Joystick up towards EXP again
