What is “hyperlinking”?

• A hyperlink refers to a way to click on a word or picture and go somewhere else

• There are several ways to hyperlink within PowerPoint

• Example, you can go to a website or go to another slide in the show.

How do you hyperlink to a website?

Step 1: Enter the words (text) you want to be able to click on

Step 2: Highlight those words and right click on the mouse. You will see the word “hyperlink” in the menu.

Step 3: After you click “hyperlink”, a new menu will pop up.

Step 4: In the address box at the bottom of the new screen, type the address you want to go to.

Step 5: Click “ok” when you are finished and you will see that the text has changed color and is now underlined. Tip

What do you mean hyperlink from one slide to another?

Sometimes you may want to jump from one slide to another in the PowerPoint, but you don’t want to click through a bunch of slides to get there.

You can create a hyperlink to that slide and save some time during the show!

You could use an action button

How do you link between slides?

Step 1: Think about which slide to want to skip to

Step 2: Decide if you want to use an action “button” or words to get there.

How do you use an action button?

Step 3a: Select the action button you want to use from the list under “Auto Shapes”

You will see a new menu pop up after you have chosen the button.

Step 4a: Use the pull down menu under hyperlink to choose from the places you can go.

Step 5a: Select the category named “slide…” to choose a specific slide to go to.

Step 6a: Choose from the list of the new menu which slide you want to go.

Click “ok” on both menus to create the link!

How do you link between slides using words?

Step 3b: (again) Type the text, words, you want to use and highlight them.

Step 4b: Like before, right click and select “hyperlink”

Step 5b: This time choose “place in the document”

Step 6b: Scroll through the slides under “select a place in this document” and click on the slide you want to link.

Then click “ok”.
