The department’s mission is to prepare students to excel as high-integrity business leaders and accounting professionals and to enablefaculty members to be outstanding instructors whose scholarshipinforms their teaching and who positively impact the professionaland Miami community. The Department of Accountancy has beenaccredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools ofBusiness International since 1984.

The bachelor’s degree program provides a general understanding ofmultiple areas of accounting and related skills. It prepares graduatesfor entry-level positions that require only an undergraduate degreeand for graduate business and accounting programs.

The master’s degree program provides an in-depth understanding ofselected areas of accounting and business and related skills. Itprepares graduates for entry-level positions that require more than abachelor's degree.

Combined Degree OptionMost states, including Ohio, require that students have 150 hours ofeducation, with at least a bachelor's degree, to take the CPA exam.This requires additional education beyond the requirements for abachelor’s degree from Miami.

High-achieving students have the option of pursuing a combineddegree program in which they can earn both a bachelor’s degree anda master’s degree in accountancy within four years. After completingthe program, they are qualified to sit for the CPA examination in thestate of Ohio and most other states that have adopted the 150-houreducation requirement.

To be eligible to apply for the combined degree program, studentsmust have completed at least 64 credit hours with a minimumoverall GPA of 3.25 and have completed ACC 221 and ACC 222 with aminimum accountancy GPA of 3.0.

Special Curriculum RequirementsStudents must earn at least a cumulative 2.00 GPA in all accountancycourses attempted at Miami. Students must also complete at leastfour required junior or senior-level accountancy courses at Miami.
