Program of Study

Think of some challenging scenarios that could benefit from inter-department collaboration. 1) Pick one scenario. Locate where the student is within the

Guttman experience…

2) Describe working with the student.

Share goals, challenges, and what works…

A) from a financial

aid/registrar perspective…

B) from an advising

perspective…

3) Discuss:

shared perspective vs. unique perspectives

potential for collaboration

vs. unique roles to play

How to best… communicate,

support the student, & support each other

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Facilitation (40 minutes): Pair up: One advisor with someone from the Hub Pick a scenario: Talk for 3 minutes about some of the challenges you have faced in working with students, in particular scenarios that in general, can benefit from advising-hub collaboration. Choose one scenario both of you are familiar with, that presents challenges to both sides. Partner A goes first: Describe working with the student from your perspective. Share your goals in working with the student, the challenges you face, and something you do or have tried that worked well (if anything). Partner B listens. Partner B goes next. Describe the same, from your perspective. Partner A listens. Recap what you have heard the other person describe. Check for understanding. On chart paper: write the scenario you discussed Use a venn diagram of some kind to represent the shared vs. unique perspective/roles (include goals, challenges, and what works in the diagram) Include a few ideas about how to enhance communication, strengthen collaboration, and support the student and each other Share out and debrief.
