THE NETHERLANDS SOCIETY OF ELECTRON MICROSCOPY

December, 1983, Wageningen, The Netherlands

(Received 24 August 1984)

In December, 1983, electron microscopists from the Netherlands met again in the International Agricultural Centre at Wageningen for a two-day scientific conference organized by the Catholic University of Nijmeqen, Laboratory of Submicroscopic Morphology (Dr. Stadthouders, Dr. Viering and Dr. Stols) and affiliated institutes.

In the plenary session, papers were presented on automatizing of electron micro- scopes, the role of X-ray microanalysis in biomedical research and three-dimensional scanning electron microscopy. A panel discussion on "surviving with electron microscopy" most vividly prompted members of the society to unfold their ideas on the most suitable scientific setting or environment in which to develop ultrastruc- ture research in times of economic regression.

The abstracts of papers presented in the second plenary, the poster and the parallel sessions are, for the reader's convenience, arranged under six topics with the names of the first authors in alphabetical order per topic. They can be found on the pages indicated.
