The only notable component was the intelligent use of fabrics. Benaras brocade is a rich textile heritage and this collection dutifully paid homage to the nature and structure of weaving. An interesting element was the scarf weaved in a way to resemble a wicker basket that firmly rested around the models' necks. They are a classic style that have evolved right from their first appearance on Minnie Mouse to today's glamourous and popular designs on runways and red-carpet events. It's a style for all seasons, simply because it exudes an undeniably youthful flair, and yet remains an incredibly timeless option for glitter girls of all ages! Big, medium or small-sized, polka dots suit everyone. Since the pattern is not restricted to one size, these dresses can be bold and vibrant or soft and subtle in design. Unlike other vintage trends, polka dots offer an intriguing way of mixing and matching with other bold colours. Clever and sensible use of this print can help you achieve various desirable styles. Says designer Archana Kochhar, "If you want to dress casually and smart, try outfits like a small-dotted jumpsuit, which is not too long and pair it with a 1960s' woven hat to make the look more personal and chic. Adding some raw details like a chunky bangle and gladiators or boots with silver studs creates the perfect contrast to the hat and the polka dots, making the outfit more modern and edgy." Bigger and more structured dots can add a little fun to a sophisticated party outfit. Such dresses need subtle accessories, so go with simple or minimalistic jewellery, handbag, hair and shoes, as the dots are enough detail on their own! N ew data compiled and released by the car companies Tuesday shows Ford sold 25,092 vehicles in Canada last month. That's up from 24,690 the same month a year ago. Chrysler Canada saw its sales increase by more in percentage terms, up 6.5 per cent from 22,703 to 24,173 vehicles. But that wasn't quite enough to outsell Ford during the month. So far this year, Chrysler has sold 58,018 vehicles in Canada, good enough for first overall and a gain of four per cent from last year's level. Both companies singled out pickup trucks for their better numbers. "We experienced our best Ram truck sales in our history this month," Chrysler Canada's COO Dave Buckingham said in a statement. The third largest North American auto company, General Motors, saw its Canadian sales continue to decline, down more than 10 per cent from the same month a year earlier to 20,218 from 22,684. Based on those numbers, Chrysler has a year-to-date new car market share of 16.3 per cent in Canada. Ford claims second place with 16.2 per cent, while GM is in third at 13.5 per cent. Japanese automaker Toyota competes with GM for the title of world's biggest car seller, but in Canada, Toyota is firmly entrenched in fourth place. Nutritionist Patricia Bannan has provided eight reasons to why we should drink tea. Tea contains a small amount of natural fluoride, a chemical that can help prevent tooth decay, she said. When fluoride mixes with saliva, bacteria can't produce the acid by-products that promote cavities. Additionally, fluoride works to repair teeth in the early stages of tooth decay, she explained. Studies also show catechins (antioxidants) in green tea extract may trigger weight loss by stimulating the body to burn calories and decreasing body fat, especially in the abdominal (belly) area. Thanks to its polyphenols (the antioxidants found in tea), sipping on a cup may have cancer-fighting effects. While the overall research is inconclusive, evidence shows the polyphenols in tea, particularly catechins, have biological activities that may be relevant to cancer prevention, Bannan noted. These antioxidants have also been shown to inhibit tumor growth: green teas specifically have been shown to activate detoxification enzymes that may help protect against tumor development. One study from Italy found drinking three cups of green tea daily prevented prostate cancer in men who had precancerous cells indicating the presence of the disease. 8 REASONS YOUSHOULD DRINK TEA

Contd. from Pg. 25However, because the studies are inconclusive, the NationalCancer Institute does not recommend for or against the use oftea to reduce the risk of any type of cancer. Scientists nowagree the 'eight glasses of water a day' rule is misleading anddrinks such as tea and coffee can hydrate the body just alongwith water. It's still a good idea to aim for moderate caffeineintake, with no more than one to two cups at a time. Accordingto a study conducted in the Netherlands and published in theArchives of Internal Medicine, drinking tea was associatedwith a more than 50 per cent reduction in severe atherosclerosis(hardening and narrowing of the arteries) in women who drank1 to 2 cups a day. Another study, published in the journalStroke, found that long-term consumption of black, green, oolong or white tea can cut the risk of strokes by as much as 60percent. Researchers say the antioxidants, found abundantlyin tea, may play a critical role in preventing heart diseases.Tea might also help in the prevention and treatment ofneurological diseases, especially degenerative diseases likeAlzheimer's.Research shows the polyphenols in green tea may help preventneurotransmitters involved in brain function, like dopamineand epinephrine, from degrading. It may also inhibit senileplaques from depositing in the brain, which impairs cognition.Overall, one to two cups of green tea a day may boost yourlearning and memory.Further, green tea has been found to improve bone mineraldensity and strength.Studies have shown that elderly women who drank tea hadhigher bone density in their hips and less bone loss than womenwho didn't drink tea.White tea has been found to be effective at fighting infectionscaused by staph and streptococcus bacteria, pneumonia andtooth decay.Researchers think the natural chemicals contained in white teamight provide many benefits to the immune system and overallhealth.

GET YOUR JEANSTO FIT YOU RIGHTA pair of well-fitting

jeans is as elusive asthe perfect red lipstick.

Jeans that do not fit well are aneyesore. Everyone struggles tofind that perfect pair.

This task becomes doublyhard if you possess a pear-shaped body (god knowswhere Kim Kardashian getshers). Finding a jeans that fitsperfectly is next to impossiblefor women who are bottomheavy. More often than not youare going to find that the jeansaccording to your waist sizewon't move an inch above yourthighs and thus you have tosettle for something that bagson your waist crushing yourdreams to wear a jeans with asnug fi t . But help's heresweeties. A nip and a tuck willsolve your problem.

1. Turn your jeans insideout and wear them and fastenthe button.

2. See the bags on thewaistband of your jeans? Pinchthe waistband from both, theright and the left sides. Youshould have an equal amountof fabric on both sides and donot pinch too hard.

Yopu don't want your

jeans to cut through yourwaist? You should only take somuch fabric that the waistbandis neither too tight nor loose butfits your waist snugly.

3. Secure each pinch of denimwith a safety pin so that yourmeasurement is not lost when youare taking off the jeans.

4. Now adjust the pins tomake a pleat on the back of thewaistband. You don't wanttucks in the front portion ofyour jeans. Make sure that youhave an equal amount of fabricon each side and the pleatsshould be equidistant from thecentre.

5. Use a sewing machineand stitch each pleat startingfrom the waistband andtapering off before the backpockets.

Make sure i t 's a neatstraight stitch. Get an expert todo it if you have zilch stitchingskills.

DEVELOP THE POISE OF A DIVAYour posture and poise can make the difference between

being present and being noticed, between a pretty womanand a beautiful diva. To develop poise and posture, read

on Poise is the signature of a true diva. It's the beauty of being inthe moment. It's what the French call a 'je ne sais quoi' quality andthe British 'an air about her'. Modern media calls it the X factorand we all instinctively recognise it when we see it. "Even anordinary-looking woman can walk into a room and have everyonelooking at her before she even utters a word. That's what poiseand good bearing can deliver to you no matter what your otherstrengths and weaknesses are. It will help you captivate andenchant, and command a presence all your own," says Miss World1997 Diana Hayden in her book. "People who have poise exudeconfidence," says grooming expert Rukshana Eisa.

Wouldn't it be great if you looked graceful from every angle? We show you how with an easy guide.Descending stairsPlace a hand on the banister either for support or just for the

awareness. Turn your foot and place it down sideways, almostparallel to the step. Avoid pointing your feet forward, unless thesteps are very broad. Let the ball of your foot land first and thenyour heel - the opposite of how you'd walk in heels. Your body willautomatically turn sideways in the direction of your feet. For anelegant effect, twist your torso and slightly angle your shouldersto face forward.Standing right Stand with your body erect, shoulder squared, and head heldupright. Try to keep your body weight evenly distributed on bothfeet, with your legs together (or slightly apart for balance). Youcould have your hands falling loosely by your side. Anothercomfortable position for your hands, especially in formal or semi-formal wear, is when you're holding something in one hand - a bag, mobile phone or a drink. Use what's in your hand as a groundingobject. If holding a glass, you could gently fold that hand at theelbow and let it rest alongside your stomach. Let the other hand fallbeside you.

BRING HOME A WIND CHIME

It's said to be the colour of passion, romance, excitementand danger. Red, more importantly, is one of the few coloursthat can dramatically brighten up the mood of the entire

room. The colour is a bright spark that can liven up any interior. However, if it's overdone, the room will definitely look garish.Hence, red, in any shade, is best used sparingly. How much ofthe house or the room one decides to paint in the colourreflects the personality of the home owner.

Unfortunately, not too many people are comfortable usingthis colour excessively. The reason? Red is also famed as adangerous colour, one that can make people irritable and invokefeelings of rage and hostility. Hence, one option is to use it ona single wall and then accessorise (upholstery and decor) usingthe colour or to go in for a dual tone painting style using twocomplementing shades of the colour. So, if you've beendebating about getting your bedroom or living room paintedin this awesome colour, here's what you need to keep in mind.Choose the right shade

Like most colours, red comes in a number of shades rangingfrom a light blushing red to deep crimson, from a rustic villagered to dark burgundy and from a tomato red to a cherry redamong others. It's most important to choose the right shade.

There's more you can do with your interiors; use old scrap tomake pretty home decor items We have moved into an erawhere all people can think is about going green. Recycling is

passe. The trend that has made a buzz now is upcycling, that is,reusing vintage products such that you can make it into somethingof a higher value. Basically, it is about using products for a littlemore time before there is place in the landfill so it can be discarded.

Though greentailing is not all that hyped up in India as it is abroad,it sure has grabbed many an eyeball. Gone are the days, when allthat youth could think of is draining their brains. A lot of ouryoungsters are making a business out of recycling and well, what'sbetter when you can both make money and tell mother nature thatyou care. Upcycling, like mentioned earlier, is quite a rage in theWest, especially when it comes to home decor. But fret not! For all ofyou who like trying out and customising goods at home, here aresome fun ideas for you to try out yourself at home:

1. Bind your old hard cover books together (side by side), suchthat it looks like a plank. You can use this as a book shelf and placethem on your wall. This is a funky way of upcycling.

2. To get that rustic look, you can use cane sieves (the oneswith which your moms and mom-in-laws sieve rice in) to make it intoa photo-frame. How? Well, just paint them in funky

ways, give them different strokes with different hues and youcan paste your photographs on them before placing them on thewall. You could also make a photo wall, by placing many sieves indifferent angles (like if you place one horizontally, place the othervertically and otherwise).

3. Use your old coasters as a wall hanging. Use colourful ribbonsor threads to tie up the coasters after they're painted in your style, and then place them on your wall. You could do the same with yourtea sieves, by painting them up and hanging them on the wall.

Wind chimes are usually found on a veranda, but notoften. They are at times made use of in order toaccentuate a long window or included to deliver elegance to a

Gardens will be yet another much-loved location to put them.Nowadays, wind chimes will not be only utilised for decoration or for fendingoff animals; they are also utilised as musical tools and areutilised by sailors to check the weather.Several people even feel that hanging windchimes in their house can bring good luck. The tones and vibrations of wind chimeswould help to calm your mind, soothe yournerves as well as discharge your entire stressthat would have built up over the week. Whileyou plunge into your home garden and revelwithin the means to connect with the earth, therelaxing sound of your wind chimes tinkling inthe wind may also make it easier to connect withyour inside spirit. For thousands of years, windchimes have been utilised for decoration apartfrom various different uses. Feng Shui also uses wind chimes for numeroustreatments, believing that the relaxing sounds created by wind chimes could

heal and restore the soul.In the North, Northwest as well as West, metal wind chimes are a great

choice while wooden wind chimes work properly in the South, Southeastand East. In line with Feng Shui, you will be able to select the quantity of rodsin line with the type of treatment you desire. For instance, four,

six, seven, eight or eighteen rods couldlikewise be used for good fortune.

Decorating a tiny living room or bedroom can be a bit hardas you may have to let go of some of the furniture. Hereare some helpful tips to make your room look wider andclutter-free. -If you have good wall space, why not put upmirrors. They can help open up tiny spaces and make yourroom look much bigger. A large mirror helps because itcreates the illusion of depth. -Before painting your livingroom, keep in mind the colour. Remember dark shades ofpaint can make the walls look narrower. Instead opt forlighter hues. You don't have to restrict yourself to boringshades of white, but try colours like beige or light yellowor blue that wil l brighten up the room. -Choose yourfurniture carefully. The more you try and fit in to your room, the less walking space you will have. Try and opt for piecesthat have double utility. Like a chest that can hold yourtelevision and music set together.

PICKING ARTWORK AMATTER OF CREATIVITY

Artwork castings canmake or break homedecor. Here is all you

need to know about choosingthe right frames. A beautifullydecora ted room looks

unfinished without any artworkon the walls.

Yet, the most beautifulpaintings, prints and, yes, evenmirrors will detract from the overalllook if wrong frames are used.

When deciding what types offrames to select to enhance yourartwork, consider the followingpoints; they will make yourselection process easier and theresult will flatter your home.

Check out your furnitureLook at the furniture and

other details in the space todecide what type of a frame willwork with what you already have.Don't forget to check out themoldings, door frames, architectural detai ls windowframes and baseboards alreadypresent.

Get the right colourDetermine which colours

predominate in your home.Does one colour seem to standout? You may choose to playup this colour by having yourart matted in a similar shade orthe frame finished in a like hue.

For a dramatic effect, tryusing a complimentary colourto make your artwork stand outand take center stage, if that isthe look you are striving for.

Revamp the framesIf you already possess

artwork that is framed invarious styles, why not trypainting the frames in the samecolour or revamping them inthe same type of stain orfinish? The result will providevisual harmony, without yourhav ing to spend a lo t o fmoney on framing.
