Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ATI TEAS exam?

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) measures basic skills in academic content areas of

Mathematics, Reading, Science, English and Language Usage.

Who takes the ATI TEAS exam?

Candidates for Nursing and Allied Health Programs take the ATI TEAS exam as part of the

selective admission process.

What if I decide to change the program I wish to petition?

If a student selects the wrong “Institution” when creating their account or changes the program

they wish to petition (i.e. Prince George’s CC AH instead of Prince George’s CC ADN) the

student may contact ATI (www.atitesting.com) to request a change.

Can I use the ATI TEAS scores I received testing at another college to petition for

admission to a program at Prince George’s Community College?

Students may send their TEAS scores/TEAS transcripts to multiple institutions. Prince George’s

Community College will only accept TEAS scores/TEAS transcripts sent securely from ATI. For

more information, contact ATI, www.atitesting.com or log in to your account, select “ATI

Store”, “TEAS/Discover Transcript”, and follow the prompts.

What is the length of the ATI TEAS exam? The exam is 209 minutes.

How many questions are on the ATI TEAS exam?

There are 170 multiple choice questions on the ATI TEAS exam.

What are the content areas covered on the ATI TEAS exam?

There are four content areas: Mathematics, Reading, Science, English and Language Usage.

What is the test format?

The ATI TEAS is a multiple-choice computer based exam.

May calculators be used on the ATI TEAS exam? ATI TEAS allows for the use of a four function calculator. For the online version of the ATI TEAS, a calculator is embedded within the exam. Although a calculator will be permitted, all questions on the TEAS are written to be solvable without the use of a calculator. Students testing prior to August 31, 2016 will take the TEAS-V, which does not allow for use of a calculator.

What are the score requirements for admission?

Students completing the ATI TEAS exam are encouraged to earn a Proficient or higher in the

ATI Preparedness Category. Applicants who exceed minimum requirements are more

competitive. The minimum recommended Reading score is 69% or higher. The minimum

Health Sciences Division 5-1-16

recommended Adjusted Individual Total Score is 65% or higher. Students with an Adjusted

Individual Total Score in the Developmental Category (less than 41.3%) will not be considered

for program admission. The scores on the ATI TEAS and TEAS-V are comparable and the

preparedness categories are the same for both exams.

When/Where should I take the ATI TEAS?

(All students must register through ATI Testing to take the TEAS-V)

Students who are petitioning for spring 2017 admission should take the ATI TEAS in September

2016. Nuclear Medicine Technology petitioners for spring 2017 admission are not required to

take the ATI TEAS. As a convenience for admitted PGCC students, the TEAS-V will be

administered on the following testing dates in the College’s Largo Campus Testing Center,

Bladen Hall, Room 100: Thursday, September 1, and Friday, September 2, 2016. There are two

testing times on September 1: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and one testing

time on September 2: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Students who are petitioning for fall 2017 admission should take the ATI TEAS in February

2017. As a convenience for admitted PGCC students, the TEAS-V will be administered on the

following testing dates in the College’s Largo Campus Testing Center, Bladen Hall, Room 100:

Tuesday, January 31, Wednesday, February 1, Wednesday, February 8, and

Thursday, February 9, 2017. There are two testing times on each day: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

and 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

*Currently, Prince George’s Community College only administers the TEAS-V exams in the fall

and spring semesters.

The College’s Testing Center will only administer the ATI TEAS to admitted Prince George’s

Community College students. Transfer students are advised to submit an application for

admission prior to registering with ATI. Students must plan to arrive 30 minutes before the start

time with at least two pencils PGCC ID, a quarter, and ATI registration verification. Transfer

students who are transferring all of their prerequisites and have been admitted to PGCC, but do

not have a PGCC ID, are permitted to take the ATI TEAS at the College’s Testing Center if a

PGCC academic advisor verifies their eligibility with the Testing Center Director. In place of a

PGCC ID, eligible transfer students must present one of the following photo IDs: College ID,

Maryland MVA ID Card, Passport or Naturalization Certificate, Employment Authorization

Card, Driver’s License, Employer’s ID, Military ID, or Permanent Resident Card.

PGCC admitted students who are unable to test at the College’s Testing center on the testing

dates published will need to register at another testing location with ATI Testing. PGCC will not

make arrangements for ATI TEAS testing outside of the published dates.

What information do I need to set-up my ATI account?

Students will visit Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI): (www.atitesting.com) to create

their personal student account.

Prince George’s Community College has two ATI accounts (“Institutions”.) Students petitioning

for admission into the Nursing Programs select “Prince George’s CC ADN” as their Institution

Health Sciences Division 5-1-16

when creating their ATI account. Students petitioning for admission into one of the Allied

Health Programs select “Prince George’s CC AH” as their Institution when creating their ATI

account.

Students will enter information as prompted to set up a profile.

My account is set up. Now, how do I register and pay for my ATI TEAS test?

In order for students to take the ATI TEAS at a testing site, students must register and pay for a

testing date.

Before registering for the exam at sites other than PGCC, students are advised to review the

available locations, dates and times and note first and second choices. Students pay for the exam

at the time they register. If a student cannot test on the day for which they registered, they must

re-register. Students will be charged for each registration.

distributed by ATI.

For Technical support, contact ATI directly at 800.667.7531 or use the “Contact Us” option

when you log in.

How many times can I take the ATI TEAS?

Students testing for admission to Nursing or Allied Health Programs at the College, may take the

exam twice in a twelve-month period. After the student has taken the TEAS for the first time,

Health Sciences Division 5-1-16

s/he must wait 30 days before the second attempt. Students opting to retake the TEAS must

retake the entire exam. Scores from different TEAS exams cannot be combined.

To be considered for a third attempt within a twelve-month period, students must submit an

appeal. For Nursing, appeals must be submitted to the Nursing Department Chair. For Allied

Health, appeals must be submitted to the respective Program Director. Appeals will be handled

on a case-by-case basis. Students must submit documentation of extenuating circumstances.

How long are ATI TEAS scores valid?

TEAS scores are valid for twenty-four (24) months after the exam is taken, and must be valid on

the date the petition for selective admission is filed. Prince George’s Community College will

continue to accept TEAS-V scores for twenty-four months after the date of the exam as long as

they are valid on the date the petition for selective admission is filed.
