Abhumka Herbal is an ISO 9001:2008 social enterprise company deeply engrossed in discovering & translating tribal traditional herbal knowledge into healthcare products. BHUMKA is a tribal herbal healer in central India and our company name is derived from it. It is perhaps the only company in both the hemisphere that financially acknowledge tribal healer’s community to raise their socio-economic status and creating livelihood opportunities. In last 11 years, Abhumka has prepared a digital library of 25000 herbal practices and launched 17 products as well. All the products are manufactured under GMP facility and herbs used are wildly collected from the forest directly through our SHG-Self Help Groups and Bhagat Mandli (Tribal traditional healer’s cooperative society). As per WHO Traditional Medicine (TM) is widely used and of rapidly growing health system and economic importance. In Asia and Latin America, populations continue to use TM as a result of historical circumstances and cultural beliefs. We began agriculture and domesticating animals in 9000 BC to meet our daily needs. Indigenous knowledge based herbal practices exist even before that and it is tried, tested and trusted since last thousands of years. Unlike western medicine which depend upon clinical evidence, it depend upon clinical experience. Indian tribal’s traditional herbal knowledge is still unwritten and passed through the words of mouth from generation to generation. Documentation of traditional knowledge of tribal will serve as a raw material for R & D and eventually for product development.
