Creatives of the Year

art director of the year

Josh is an interdisciplinary art director and designer who uses arresting and beautiful type and design to solve complex business problems. A Mississippian with a decidedly downtown flair, Josh has the ability to see the big picture of a marketing challenge while ensuring that each design detail is perfectly and painstakingly crafted and executed.

A graduate of the Memphis College of Art and Design, Josh began his career in Memphis joining BOHAN in 2010. He has brought his considerable talents to bear on work for clients such as The Standard, Pigeon Forge, O’Charley’s and Halcyon Bike Shop and has previously received Best of Show honors at the AAF ADDY Awards and has been featured in Communication Arts.

In his spare time, he builds furniture from reclaimed barn wood and enjoys fishing and camping.

Copywriter of the Year

A graduate of the University of Georgia and the Creative Circus, Laura began her career at Endres & Wilson Advertising. As part of the team at Lewis Communications, she collaborates on strategy and concepts for clients such as Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville Zoo, Goo Goo Clusters, Wake Forest Baptist Health, Energy Logic and Boyle Investment Company.

The American Advertising Federation Nashville previously named her Copywriter of the Year in 2000, 2003 and 2005. Her work has won numerous local, regional and national Addys and has appeared in Communication Arts Advertising Annual.

Sara Janssen’s work spans multiple disciplines, including identity, brand development, print, digital, in-store, environments and more for national clients like American Standard, Appleton Coated, Drake University, Ecolab, National Geographic, Polaroid, Porsche and more. Prior to joining The Thorburn Group, Janssen hung her hat at leading Minneapolis agencies BBDO, Martin|Williams and Carmichael Lynch. Her awards include The Show, NAMA, AIGA and bragging rights for having created the identity for Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.

Theresa Jennings has been in the graphic design industry for over 40 years, starting out on the school newspaper and then working as an illustrator and ad designer for a small clothing shop. She has worked in nearly every discipline of graphic design with clients that include AMC Theatres; Yoshimura, Inc. Shizuki America; Focus on the Family and Gonzo Marketers. She is also a web developer who builds responsive websites and offers services for small business e-commerce, search and social media. She is a silver and bronze Addy award winner and has participated in many advertising clubs and organizations.

Heath Meyette is the co-founder of a web and graphic design agency in Southern California. He is project lead and oversees all web and online marketing strategy projects from concept through completion. Meyette is the recipient of over 30 prestigious regional and national design awards, and he was interviewed for the book Breaking Into Graphic Design: Tips from the Pros, which provides insight to young graphic designers on how to start their careers in design. His work has been published in American Corporate Identity, a showcase of the best corporate identities from across the nation. He has also taught web and graphic design at the The Art Institute of California – Inland Empire.

Frank Stegmaier is a thinker, a questioner and an all-around badass who constantly pushes beyond the discipline of visual communication. He believes in ideas over mediums. He’s spent years working in traditional, digital and emerging mediums for both international and local brands. He has worked with amazing collaborators at the Flint Group, AdFarm, McCann Worldgroup, Mithun and now Geometry Global.

Peter Mobley is founder and CEO of an innovative advertising and design firm in Riverside, California. He’s an experienced high-level marketing executive who has developed brands, launched strategic advertising campaigns, and maintained brand awareness for several Fortune 500 companies. Mobley has been honored with three nationally acclaimed AdWheel Awards in 2010 and 2012 for advertising. He is also the recipient of two Addy Awards in 2013 and five Addy Awards in 2014 for his forward thinking print advertising.

Greg Arens is a senior copywriter at Adventure Advertising with 25 years of wordsmithing under his ever-expanding belt. He’s written for every medium and for virtually every market segment, from stethoscopes to crossbows, and for noteworthy clients including 3M, United Healthcare, GE, Honda and Berkley Fishing. Arens appreciates art directors who adore words, give them love and actually read them. His message to Nashville: “This city is crazily creative. It was a privilege to judge your work.”

AAF Nashville Mission Statement

The mission of the American Advertising Federation Nashville (AAF Nashville) is to expose members to visionary issues relative to the advertising/

communications industry while creating opportunities for networking, learning, service and individual recognition.

The American Advertising Awards

The American Advertising Awards (AAA) are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 40,000

entries every year in local competitions. The mission of the AAA competition is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising.

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the AAF Nashville American Advertising Awards is the first of a three-tier

national competition. Concurrently all across the country, local entrants vie for recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier,

local winners from Nashville compete against other winners from other cities in Tennessee, as well as cities in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and

Mississippi. AAF District 7 ADDY winners will be announced and recognized at the AAF District 7 AAA Ceremony, Friday, April 10, 2015 in Knoxville,

Tennessee. Winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the National American Advertising Awards competition. National winners will be recognized

during the AAF ADMERICA! National Convention & AAA Ceremony, Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
