The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet has cleared the interest subvention scheme for farmers with an

allotment of total expenditure of Rs. 20,339 crores in the current financial year as interest subsidy on short term

crop loans. The Cabinet has decided that the crop loans of up to Rs. 3 lakh will be made available to the prompt

payee farmers at four percent interest rate only. Interest subvention provided is- 5%; however the actual interest





rate is 9%, after this 5% ISS the interest rate payable is only 9-5=4%. This is in case of prompt payment i.e timely

payment. In case the repayment is not done timely, only 2% Interest Subvention will be provided i.e 9-2=7%. So

interest rate applicable will be 7% in this case

Second bi-monthly monetary policy for 2017-18 highlights

The following are the highlights of the second bi-monthly monetary policy for 2017-18 as announced by the RBI:

Repo rate unchanged at 6.25%,

Reverse repo under the LAF unchanged at 6%

The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate unchanged at 6.50 per cent.

Statutory Liquidity Ratio cut by 0.5% to 20%

Growth forecast for 2017—18 lowered to 7.3% from 7.4%

Inflation projected at 2—3.5% for H1, 3.5—4.5% H2, FY18

World Investment Report: Investment And The Digital Economy 2017 by United Nations Conference On Trade And Development (UNCTAD)

In 2016, global flows of foreign direct investment fell by about 2 per cent, to $1.75 trillion.

Global flows are forecast to increase to almost $1.8 trillion in 2017, continuing to $1.85 trillion in 2018.

FDI flows to developing Asia contracted by 15 per cent to $443 billion in 2016.

The favourite FDI destinations remain the United States, China and India.

BRICS accounted for 22 per cent of global GDP

Current account deficit narrows in 2016-17: RBI

RBI a ou ed that I dia s u e t a ou t defi it (CAD) narrowed during the last fiscal (2016-17) due to a

o t a tio i the ou t s t ade defi it. According to the data, the CAD (Current account deficit) for last fiscal narrowed to 0.7 per cent of the GDP (Gross

Domestic Product) from 1.1 per cent in 2015-16.

I dia s trade deficit narrowed to $112.4 billion in 2016-17 from $130.1 billion in 2015-16.

Net FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) inflows in 2016-17 marginally declined to $35.6 billion from $36 billion

reported during 2015-16.

Govt lowers interest rate by 0.1 % on small saving schemes for July-Sep

quarter

Government has lowered interest rate on small saving schemes by 0.1 per cent for the July- September quarter.

The move will prompt banks to lower deposit rates. New Interest Rates are:

Public provident fund (PPF) scheme – 7.8 per cent.

Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) investments – 7.5 per cent and mature in 115 months.

The one for girl child savings, Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme – 8.3 per cent

5-year Senior Citizens Savings Scheme – 8.3 per cent.

Banking Ombudsman Scheme 2006 amended by RBI

Under the amended Scheme, a customer would also be able to lodge a complaint against the bank for its non-

adherence to RBI instructions with regard to Mobile Banking/ Electronic Banking services in India.

The pecuniary jurisdiction of the Banking Ombudsman to pass an Award has been increased from existing rupees

one million to rupees two million (Rs 20 lakh).

The amended Scheme shall come into force from July 1, 2017.
