A preview- and a promise The editorial policy of the AORN JOURNAL i s one of strength, quality and flexibility. Like the organization i t serves, it i s not static nor afraid to change. That change, how- ever, must be aimed at progress, per- formance, and professionalism. It must de- note growth and maturity and i t must meet the expanding needs of its constituents.

The Editorial Committee and the new editorial staff accept the responsibility to publish material which i s educational, in- formative, accurate and provocative. Our pledge to you is a continuation of our never- ceasing effort toward excellence.

We do not always expect to please you nor give you all the answers, but we do expect to offer you stimulation and chal- lenge.

Through the editorial pages and the monthly columns we will give you fact and opinion. We will offer you information, in- terpretation and guidance from authorities and experts.

Occasionally, we may even entertain you! But the ultimate goal will always be better patient care in the operating room.

Our advertising, as always, will be se- lected because of i ts relevance and reliabil- ity.

Our expectation from you i s response.

We are aware that your response may be based on your own conviction. Once in a while we expect the logic of the editor

or the author will incite a change in that response. If you agree and we satisfy your need, you will perhaps nod with approval. If you are provoked, you may write a scathing letter to the editor.

But, if you are stimulated, you may write for publication.

AORN will provide the vehicle through which you may be heard - the opportunity to voice your opinion and share your ideas, your experiences, and your research.

As you may have noticed, the AORN JOURNAL masthead on p 3 has a new look and some new names. The personality of Kathy Cribari, associate editor, has been reflected through the vibrance of the AORN JOURNAL for the past two years. As she leaves us she will be truly missed. Hope- fully, we will maintain the bright and shin- ing quality that was hers. We will also add certain unique characteristics which spill over from our own individual personality storehouses.

The AORN JOURNAL will reflect the charisma of devoted people who are com- mitted to i t s continued growth and develop- ment.

It i s my privilege and I am honored to be the RN editor of the AORN JOURNAL.

It i s with commitment and devotion that

- Betty Thomas, RN I assume the duties of this post.
