Dylan Thomas (1914 - 1953) is Wales’ best known poet. Literature Wales has crafted a series of 23 one-off extraordinary experiences which will take you to the

very heart of his worlds - the vast seascapes, village tracks, urban greys, dusky moorlands, brimming meadows and lush parklands stretching from Greenwich Village to Laugharne, New Quay, Fitzrovia, Swansea, Oxford, Gower and Llanybri. With the help of some of Wales’ best living artists - including comedian Griff Rhys Jones, author and scriptwriter Andrew Davies, actor Helen Griffin, National Poet of Wales Gillian Clarke, former Archdruid T. James Jones and writer Owen Sheers - we will explore the richness of Welsh landscapes, hospitality, culture and gastronomy by boat, canoe, horse-drawn carriage, bus, steam train, foot and horseback.

Dylan settled in Laugharne in 1938-1940, and again in 1949 until his death. Drawn to the shimmering tidal harbour, he often rowed and sailed across the Taf Estuary to visit editor Keidrych Rhys, acclaimed Welsh-Argentinian poet Lynette Roberts, novelist and poet Glyn Jones, and childhood friend Vera Phillips, as well as to drink in Llansteffan's pubs and seek inspiration - many of Dylan’s poems and short stories are set within the area. The

journey across the estuary bridges two of his worlds, with panoramas of Sir John’s Hill, Laugharne and the valleys towards Fernhill Farm. Join Dylan Thomas experts Professor John Goodby and Jeff Towns in exploring the Taf Estuary by canoe, riding the eddies of his life and words. Simply magical.

A pacifist and terrified of conscription, Dylan was disturbed by the Second World War. Migrating between London and west Wales throughout, he worked on propaganda films as well as crafting some of his darkest, saddest literature. We will

explore war-torn Swansea, through the sites of streets ravaged by bombs to the places which survived, examining the devastating loss of the 1930s Kardomah Gang haunts. Writer Nigel Jenkins and historian and critic Professor Peter Stead will explore the effect of this on Dylan’s psyche and writing. The tour includes the ‘Dylan’s Swansea’ exhibition at Swansea Museum (which Dylan reputedly called “a museum which belongs in a museum”), a talk by Sidney Roe, who grew up with Dylan and experienced the Swansea Blitz, and a screening of some of his propaganda films in La Charrette, a cinema within an old train carriage. You can join us for the talk and screening alone if you wish.

DYLAN THOMAS, SURREALISM AND POPULAR CULTURE Saturday 14 June, 2014

Poet and artist Pascale Petit and Melissa Munro (Derek Williams Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art) will guide us on an exclusive Dylan Thomas-themed walk and viewing at the National Museum Cardiff. Starting with some of the museum’s Surrealist collections, they will explore why Dylan was drawn to the movement without wanting his writing to be a part of it. The focus will then shift to Dylan’s influence on artists and popular culture with a guided

tour of the museum’s collection of Dylan-inspired works including a glimpse of Ceri Richards’ sketchbooks, which contain illustrations of, and responses to, Dylan’s literature. The tour will also include an exclusive viewing of several of Lee Miller’s original photographs of Dylan with Antony Penrose, son of Miller and the artist Roland Penrose, who organised the 1936 International Surrealist Exhibition. Performance poet Rhys Trimble will bring the tour to a close with a bilingual performance drawing on the psychotropic elements of Dylan’s work.

DYLAN THOMAS, THE KARDOMAH GANG, THE ACTOR AND THE COMEDIANSaturday 6 September, 2014

Times: 11.00 am - 5.30 pm Start / Finish point: Outside The Dylan Thomas Centre, Somerset Place, Swansea, SA1 1RR Ticket price: £32 (£30) Food / Drink provision: Two course lunch and afternoon cake included. Recommended clothing: Comfortable hard-wearing footwear; Waterproofs; Warm layers; Sun cream & hat

It has often been said that Dylan pitched his personality according to his audience. The friends of his early adulthood were pivotal in the development of the poet, the actor, the comedian and the man. Based in wider Swansea and Gower, they included Vernon Watkins, a fellow poet and member of the Kardomah Gang and Dan Jones his childhood friend, composer and linguist, as well as Bert

Trick the socialist grocer, Thomas’ South Wales Daily Post colleagues and the Little Theatre crew. Professor John Goodby and Jeff Towns will consider the influence of these people on Dylan’s personality and poetry through the very places in which he socialised. We will enjoy a short talk by Sidney Roe, who grew up with Dylan and was Chief Engineer at BBC Swansea, during lunch at Langland’s Brasserie. Finishes with a short walk to Arthur’s Stone, where Dylan tried to invoke spirits after the performance of a play.

Why not book this tour as the finale to Swansea University’s international conference, Dylan Unchained: The Dylan Thomas Centenary Conference 1914 – 2014, taking place from 3 – 5 September 2014. For further information visit: www.swansea.ac.uk/dylanthomas

TEITHIAU LLENYDDOL UNDYDD A PHRESWYL TELERAU AC AMODAU

Cyflwr y Tywydd Bydd y teithiau’n cael eu cynnal ym mhob tywydd, heblaw bod perygl i iechyd a diogelwch. Ni fydd tywydd gwael yn rheswm teilwng i ganslo taith ac, os ydych am wneud ar y diwrnod, ni fydd Llenyddiaeth Cymru yn cynnig ad-daliad. Polisi Canslo Teithiau Undydd O ganlyniad i’r ymrwymiadau ariannol a gweinyddol a ddaw o drefnu’r teithiau llenyddol, mae’n rhaid gwarantu’r incwm a gynhyrchir. Gellir cynnig ad-daliad os darperir rhybudd rhesymol (lleiafswm o 28 niwrnod) ond caiff ffi gweinyddol o 20% ei gymryd o’r ad-daliad. Gallwch ganslo taith o fewn y cyfnod rhybudd o 28 diwrnod ond cynigir ad-daliad dim ond os fydd Llenyddiaeth Cymru yn llwyddo i’w ail-werthu. Caiff ffi o 20% ei gymryd o’r ad-daliad hwn yn ogystal. Mae Llenyddiaeth Cymru yn cadw’r hawl i ganslo taith undydd mewn achos o salwch neu unrhyw amgylchiadau eraill sydd tu hwnt i’n rheolaeth. Os bydd taith yn cael ei chanslo mi fydd Llenyddiaeth Cymru yn gwneud pob ymdrech i gysylltu â chi o flaen llaw ac yn darparu ad-daliad llawn. Mae Llenyddiaeth Cymru yn cadw’r hawl i wrthod gadael unrhyw un ar daith sydd, neu sy’n ymddangos i fod, o dan ddylanwad alcohol neu gyffuriau, neu unrhyw un sydd yn ymddwyn mewn ffordd sydd yn niweidiol i fwynhad y bobl eraill ar y daith. Polisi Canslo Teithiau Preswyl Yn achos teithiau preswyl, mae’r ymrwymiadau ariannol a gweinyddol yn fwy sylweddol. Rhaid talu blaendal o 20% o gost y daith pan archebir lle dros 28 niwrnod cyn dyddiad y daith. Ni ad-delir y blaendal os fyddwch yn canslo eich lle neu’n methu â thalu gweddill y balans terfynol. Bydd gweddill cost y daith yn ddyledus 28 niwrnod cyn dyddiad y daith. Rhaid talu’r swm llawn os archebir lle yn llai na 28 niwrnod cyn dyddiad y daith.

Gallwch ganslo lle ar daith breswyl o fewn y cyfnod rhybudd o 28 niwrnod ond cynigir ad-daliad os fydd Llenyddiaeth Cymru yn llwyddo i ail-werthu’r tocyn yn unig. Bydd ffi o 20% yn cael ei dynnu o’r ad-daliad yn ogystal. Mae Llenyddiaeth Cymru yn cadw’r hawl i ganslo taith breswyl, er enghraifft, os na fydd yn llwyddo i werthu’r nifer angenrheidiol o docynnau i gynnal y daith. Ni fyddwn yn canslo taith yn hwyrach na 28 niwrnod cyn dyddiad y daith heblaw am resymau Force Majeure (cynigir ad-daliad llawn mewn achos o’r fath). Gall lleoedd unigol ar deithiau gael eu canslo yn ogystal os fyddwch yn methu â thalu'r balans terfynol. Mae Llenyddiaeth Cymru yn cadw’r hawl i wrthod gadael unrhyw un ar daith sydd, neu sy’n ymddangos i fod, o dan ddylanwad alcohol neu gyffuriau, neu unrhyw un sydd yn ymddwyn mewn ffordd sydd yn niweidiol i fwynhad y bobl eraill ar y daith. Newidiadau i’r Daith Yn achlysurol gall amgylchiadau tu hwnt i reolaeth Llenyddiaeth Cymru arwain at newidiadau mân i’r daith. Mae engreifftiau o newidiadau posib yn cynnwys, ond heb fod yn gyfyngedig i, newidiadau i ran o lwybr y daith neu gyfnewid gwesty neu fwyty. Mewn achos o’r fath, bydd dewis arall o werth cyfatebol yn cael ei gynnig yn ei le. Gwisgo’n Addas Sicrhewch eich bod wedi gwisgo’n addas ac yn ddigon heini ar gyfer y daith. Cynhelir y teithiau mewn amrywiaeth o amgylchiadau ac mae’n rhaid ichi sicrhau eich bod yn meddu ar y cyfarpar cywir ac â'r gallu corfforol i ymdrîn â gofynion y daith oherwydd bydd rhai ohonynt yn cynnwys llwybrau anwastad a fydd yn fwdlyd ac wedi eu gorchuddio gan ordyfiant. Ceir gwybodaeth bellach am lefelau anhawster y teithiau yn eu disgrifiadau. Anfonir manylion am y gofyniadau penodol atoch chi ymhell cyn y daith.

Hygyrchedd Cynhelir y teithiau mewn amrywiaeth o leoliadau ac efallai na fydd rhai o’r rhain yn hygyrch i gadair olwyn. Cyfeiriwch at ddisgrifiad y daith cyn archebu.
