    A COMMON BALANCE: IMPOSSIBLE DREAMNSculptural Exhibition by Andre Woodward April 29July 17

    SARATOGA, Calif.A special reception will be held for Lucas Artist Fellow Andre

    Woodward with the opening of his exhibition,A COMMON BALANCE: IMPOSSIBLE

    DREAMN, on Friday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in the Project Space Gallery at Montalvo Arts

    Center. Woodward will transform the gallery into a virtual grow lab with ten of his

    sculptural installations that represent his interest in biodiversity and complexity theory

    and the unique balance they embody. Reflecting Montalvos thematic examination of

    Natural and Creative Capital, Woodwards sculptures incorporate a mixture of plant life

    and manmade materials in an attempt to personify the ecological facilitation that occursbetween nature, technology, and humanity.

    The artist will be on hand at the reception to discuss his work and answer questions. He

    will be in residence at Montalvos Sally and Don Lucas Artists Programs from mid-April

    to mid-June. The exhibition will be on view ThursdaysSundays, 11 a.m.3 p.m.,

    through July 17. Admission is free to both the reception and exhibition.

    Andre Woodward is a sculptor who lives and works in Costa Mesa, California. Born inNewport Beach, he received a BA in Studio Art from UC-Irvine and an MFA in Sculpture

    from CSU-Long Beach. His work carefully composed objects highlighting the urban

    environment in relation to the natural worldhas been shown in alternative and

    traditional sites around California, including many Southern California galleries, the

    Torrance Art Museum, and the Huntington Beach Art Center. Woodward has received

    several honors, including a Hoff Foundation Grant and the 2011 Visions from the New

    California award.
