ACADEMIC TEAM OPPORTUNITIES:

GRADE ELIGIBILITY
Student must have a 3.0 GPA Grades will be obtained using the Infinite
Campus system. Students will be added to the eligibility sheet
at school. Must be passing five classes to compete at
matches or will be placed on academic probation for that week and will not be allowed to travel with the team.
ACADEMIC PROBATION
If failing in TWO classes: Student will attend practices, but use the
time as study hour until grade goes up. Student must get grade up by next match to
participate in match. Student will have two matches to raise their
grade(s) up or student will be removed from the team.
PRACTICES
Quick Recall and Written Assessment
Tuesdays BEST OPTION for
success: 2nd 9-wks class during 4th period
Parents/Students can provide snacks, to be eaten at beginning of practice.
Every member must learn how to use the machine, keep score, read questions and serve as the spotter.
Future Problem Solving (TBD) Students who are only
involved in FPS must attend.
Team must consist of 4 team members with an alternate

HOME MATCHES (5:00-8:00PM)
Mondays WMS Library Parents will sign up to be written assessment
proctors, score keepers and time keepers. Students will bring $3 for pizza and drinks
BEFORE school to Dr. Wilson to order by match time.
TEAM UNIFORM
WMS T-shirt/Khaki pants Students without uniform at matches will not
compete. Student will need to order a team shirt if they
don’t already have one.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Students are expected to attend all matches and practices.
Practices Three consecutive unexcused practices missed,
student is off the team. Five total unexcused practices missed by Round
Robin in December will result in dismissal from team.

TRANSPORTATION
Students will ride with parents to matches. Students need to present note from parent with permission to ride home with someone else from an away match.
Students will take the bus to Ms. Kadambi’s house for practice and be picked up there by parent(s)

FUNDRAISERS
Any fundraiser will be a mandatory event; all students must participate. If student doesn’t want to participate in
fundraisers, they will pay extra on top of their dues.
The cost of operating the team will be divided by total number of team members. The additional money will be added to their dues.

2015 MIDDLE SCHOOL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP Atlanta Hyatt Regency hotel on the weekend of May 6-8, 2016. The registration fee is $545 per team if payment is received on or before
April 11. The fee is $575 per team after April 11. Schools whose first qualifying event occurred after March 1 have until April 24 to register at the lower rate. The deadline to accept an invitation is May 1 or when the field fills, whichever comes first.
The registration fee only covers entrance to the tournament. It does not cover transportation, lodging, food, or other expenses.
Teams bringing a working lockout system to the tournament will receive a $30 discount on the registration fee if it meets NAQT's national-championship standards. Each team may claim up to two such discounts. Lockout systems will be tested at check-in, and those that don’t have enough functioning buzzers will be denied the discount. Lockout system discounts will only be for systems that NAQT can keep from the beginning of the tournament until the lunch break on Sunday.
EXPECTATIONS FOR ACADEMIC TEAM PARENTS Be helpful and supportive of students and coaches. Allow the coaches to do the job of coaching the team as
they see fit. Respect the coach’s decisions and actions. Do not spread negativity. Always inform coach of any issues/problems first, do not
go over coaches head. Do not force child to be on Academic team, must be
child’s choice. Provide contact information with daytime email address. Put into effect the phone tree when necessary. Agree to and support the policies outlined in the
Academic Team Manual. Pay student dues. Attend any parent meetings to discuss upcoming events.
EXPECTATIONS FOR ACADEMIC TEAM MEMBERS
Have a positive attitude. Respect coaches and other team members. Agree to and support the policies in outlined the
Academic Team Manual. Attend all practices and matches. If absent inform Dr. Wilson in advance. Participate in all fundraisers or pay extra dues. Wear uniform to all matches. Be passing 6/6 classes. HAVE FUN!
