A Bridge of GenerosityFive Levels of Giving

A Bridge of GenerosityGenerosity is Gods desire for us.What is the purpose of an offering? Why does God require an offering? Our need to give is greater than the Churchs need for money.

Its our DNAWe are the children of God. We take on His naturegiving, generous.

Gods not broke; God doesnt need a bailout. He requires an offering. Why?

Goes to great lengths to teach us to give

Were going to learn about 5 levels of givingnot all tonight.2A Bridge of GenerosityGiving is in our DNA. However,Giving is a struggle for many.Giving traumatizes us.Giving causes us to be creative in ways to give less.Giving is a struggle. We dont really believe God is the owner.Giving is often fear-driven.

StruggleIf we stay at the sacrifice level, we never get the bridge completed.

We never know true joy of giving. We believe were the owner, provider. We are afraid to give, because we dont understand we can give.

We are afraid not to give, because we want to be blessed. Its just a big sacrifice!3Giving Is a Struggle When our Hearts not in itGiving reveals our Heart. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. Genesis 4:3 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect.Genesis 4:4, 5a.Cain may have waited until ready to plant before brought his offering.God not only did not respect Cains offering, He did not have respect for Cain.

Abel brought first lambbest he had

As long as giving is a sacrifice for us A struggle we will live in, less blessed place Struggle in relationship and other areas See how important giving is to us!

I pray that from this day forward, an offering is not a struggle, sacrifice for you.4What Is the Purpose of an Offering? It acknowledges that God is our Provider. But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. 1 Chronicles 29:14

Obedience StruggleMoving quickly to next level ObedienceObedience is better than sacrifice. All offerings come from God.

David expresses this really well.David raises the funds to build the temple, but Solomon builds it.

If God has not provided an offering for you, then dont give one.If He has provided one, you must give one.

Dont confuse your seed and your harvest.Dont eat or use your seed.5

2. We Are Always Giving to God

Not to a person,Not to a church,Not to something that will be disposed of, used up, or rot away.David said, of thine own have we given thee. What were they doing?Preparing to build a templeAll true giving is eternal, because it is to God.

Dont get hung up on who may appear to be the recipient of the offering.Satan wont say, Dont give an offering. He says, They dont need this. They arent managing well. Its not about they, its about God.

Jesus says, Dont let left hand know what right hand does. We use this to teach the doctrine of privacy. Both of my hands are on my body not about someone else--about me not over analyzingrationalizing myself out of giving.6

3. Giving Is Eternal.

Our giving ascends to Heaven, just like our prayers.Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.Acts 10:31But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven .Matthew 6:20a.

What can you give to or invest in that lasts throughout eternity? What can you buy that lasts long enough for you to pay for it?Corneliusa devout manfeared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always. He also fasted.

Jesus said it this way lifted giving to a lofty heightLay your treasures up in Heaven where theyre safeno thieves, no moth, rust.Cant take it with you, but you can and must send it on ahead.7

4. Our Offering Provides Fellowship With God. And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty: But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians. Exodus 3:21, 22 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering. And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. Exodus 25:2, 8

This is my favorite. There cannot be a more broken, destitute people than people 400 years in slavery.God gives favor.Take all the gold, silver, brass, purple, blueAll they needed to build the tabernacleWilderness have everything they need to make a beautiful dwelling place for Lord

Why? Make me a sanctuary so that I may dwell among them.

God provides an offeringdont miss it.We give to whom we love, and it enhances relationship.8Our Offering Produces Abundant Thanksgiving to God.Our offering causes people to pray for us.More than helping meet the need, it also produces abundant and bountiful thanksgiving to God. You show your gratitude to God through your generous offerings. Meanwhile, moved by the extravagance of God in your lives, theyll respond by praying for you in passionate intercession for your need.2 Corinthians 9:1214, MessageEntrepreneurs, business owners give generously, causing people to thank God abundantly. They pray fervently, passionately for you and your business.I think, personally, my business was blessed by pure prayers from people who thanked God for my gift and prayed for me.David Green Some say, Its the giving that causes Hobby Lobby to be blessed. I think its the prayer.I think you cant separate the two.9

6. It Brings Joy of the Lord, Strength.

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.Nehemiah 8:10Joy of the Lord is your strength

People who are giving are happy, joyful, and theyre strong. They stand in tough times. They know their source. They know He is sure.

I worked to teach my daughters to be givers, because I knew they would be happy and strong.

I sat by the bedside of a saint who gave all he had to the church. He was so happy. He didnt want to take an ambulance to Vanderbilt even though he was not able to ride in a car (double hip replacement) because Medicare wouldnt pay for ambulance, and he wanted to leave more to the Lord.10

7. When We Give an Offering, We Partner With God in Eternal Ministry.

An offering is where the tangible and the spiritual meet. The tabernacle knitted Gods people together, where God met them. The Church at Philippi partnered with God through giving to Paul.

A Bridge of GenerosityOur faith and our finances are inseparable to God.For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. Malachi 1:11Struggle Obedience FaithMove from obedience to faith.Last book of OT in MalachiGod instructs and even reprimands Israel about tithing and offerings.Last voice, no prophecy for 400 years - silence12Our Faith and Our Finances Are Inseparable to God.The first sermon in the New Kingdom:He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages. Luke 3:1114

Fast forward 400 years.Did anyone ask about money? What was the question? With heartfelt conviction, they ask, What shall we do then? What is the fruit that a good tree bringeth forth?

Last message is about tithing and giving.First message is about how stewardship becomes a lifestyle radical preaching Fruit of a regenerated life effects money13Our Faith and Our Finances Are Inseparable to God.Faith and reason can travel only so far together. When the road becomes narrow and steep, faith must leave reason behind and travel on alone.Reason

Faith----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Couple and brakesReason says, If 100% is not enough, 90% will never work.Faith says, God will provide.Faith says, 90% blessed is better than 100% that is not blessed.14Our Offering Is Not Our Tithe. Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:815Clearly 2 different giftsMy birthday is May 7, Mothers Day is May 14--One gift?Tithes belongs to GodNon-negotiableOfferings arent negotiable eitherBoth
