A BBQ for Australia day is not a bad way to celebrate Celebrating Australia day is a great way to honour your country’s heritage by remembering a big part of Australian history. People from all over the country get together, dress up in all kinds of weird and wonderful things to show that they remember the past and honour the people that have made Australia the great country that it is today. Even though there has been much debate about the dates for this special occasion it has finally settled on the 26 th of January every year, in order to mark the landing of the first British colonials to reach the Australian shore. The reason for the debate on the dates is because of the original arrival being a whole nine months earlier. Unfortunately the shore at Botany Bay was not a good place to settle a colony at the time so they sailed further up and finally settled at Sydney Cove. There are all kinds of events that are being held all over the country this year and if you need to find out what is happening and where you can search online, but an Australia day BBQ is just as good as any if you really don’t want to get caught up with all the crowds. You can find big events where you can expect to see fireworks, and people all dressed up for the day, wearing their Australia day gear proudly and swinging flags and having a really great time. Canberra will be holding a flag-raising and citizenship ceremony with the prime minister. The Rocks will be having a live music festival in Sydney if you prefer to listen to some good music and relax with some friends. If you are located near Brisbane you can an outdoor concert at the South Bank. There are fun runs at the esplanade, breakfast on the Bellerive Boardwalk and a massive celebration in the city of Adelaide, where they plan to have a street parade and a concert, all followed by amazing fireworks. No matter where you are, there is bound to be something of interest to you. Australia day at the office or just at home can be a great way to celebrate if you plan to keep things small. Big crowds can be a pain at times so cooking a couple steaks and some chicken over a fire while you and a few colleagues relax and enjoy the fireworks from a distance is not a bad way to go about things either. If you are warmed up and ready to hit the town afterwards then at least you’ll be ready to party.
