Minority Scholarship Raffle

The Illinois Fund for Careers in School Psychology will host its annual silent auction and raffle with a

twist. The silent auction will start during the day on Thursday and Friday, January 30th and 31st. Each

day, the tables will close 15 minutes after the scheduled end time of the pm workshops.

The raffle and reception will take place Friday January 31st from 5pm to 7pm, with a Carnivale

theme. We appreciate your help and commitment to raising funds for scholarships. To make a

donation, donate silent auction items, or to donate raffle items, please contact Katherine Campbell at

[email protected].

All proceeds from this event are used to provide scholarships for students from a minority group

enrolled in an approved program in the field of school psychology. Celebrate with us and mingle with

colleagues. Help us meet our fundraising goal!

NASP COMMUNITY OUTREACH The Governing Board has selected Bernie's Book Bank as the charitable organization for which ISPA

will focus its charitable giving on for 2019-2020 year. Bernie's Book Bank provides books to at-risk

children in the Chicagoland area. Contact Rosalinda Barragan, Service Project Chair at

[email protected], if you would like to get involved in the fundraising efforts.

In addition to an important financial contribution, here are some other wonderful ways that you, your

family, and your school community can support Bernie's Book Bank:

• Volunteer or organize a group to sort, sticker & pack books

• Organize a book drive; collect books for at-risk children from community members

• Donate $8 to provide quality books for a year for one child

• Hold a bake sale or lemonade stand to benefit Bernie’s Book Bank

• Shop AmazonSmile and select Bernie’s Book Bank as your beneficiary

• Host your next corporate, social or civic event in the Bernie’s Book Bank venue

• Donate children’s books for ages birth through 6th grade

• Attend Book Lovers’ Events, Birdies & Books or a Bernie’s Book Bank partner event

Learn more about these opportunities and Bernie's Book Bank Lake Bluff location by clicking here.

The book drive at the Fall Conference was a great success! ISPA exceeded the goal of 500 books by

receiving 573 books donated! A new goal has been set to collect 800 books at the Annual

Convention in Springfield in January. If you will be attending the Annual Convention be sure to bring

new or used children's books to support Bernie's Book Bank.

Professional Development Credit Professional Development credit is available for all participants as ISPA is an approved provider for

professional development/continuing education credit for:

• State of Illinois (ISBE) licensure renewal

• National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) for NCSP renewal

• Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) for Professional

Counselors, Social Workers, and Clinical Psychologists.

Participants in each workshop will be awarded credits based on the total length of each session.

Attendees must attend the entire session to receive PD credit.

Completion of the ISBE evaluation form and receipt of the Evidence of Completion/Documentation of

Attendance forms is required to receive PD credit. Note: To receive ISBE credit, each person must

have their IEIN (Illinois Educator Information Number) on the attendance sheet of each workshop

session. This number can be obtained by logging into the State licensure system (ELIS) at:

https://sec3.isbe.net/IWASNET/login.aspx. ISBE requires 120 PD hours every five-year renewal

cycle.

Activities must address & reflect the following professional development purposes:

1. Advance certificate holder’s knowledge and skills consistent with Illinois Standards for which the

certificate is endorsed to keep that certificate holder current.

2. Develop knowledge and skills in areas to be determined by ISBE for all school service personnel.

3. Address the knowledge, skills, and goals of the school improvement plan.

4. Addresses the needs of serving students with disabilities, including adapting and modifying

professional practices to meet the needs of students/LRE.

The Nationally Certified School Psychologist system (NCSP) recommends school psychologists

develop a personal plan for the required 75 hours of professional development, thus obtaining credit

from a broad range of experience and topics. NCSP holders must obtain 10 of the 75 CPDs required

for renewal from NASP- or APA-approved providers during each three-year renewal period. A three

hour course in ethical practice and/or the legal regulation of school psychologists is also required for

each renewal period which ISPA provides annually. NOTE: Maintaining NCSP status completes all

requirements for ISBE renewal along with paying renewal registration fees.

Further information can be obtained by contacting:

Illinois State Board of Education at https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Educator-Licensure.aspx

NASP Professional Standards department at 301-657-0270 or [email protected].

ISPA Professional Development Co-Chairs: Cathy Stein at [email protected], Sandy

Hoffman at [email protected].

Workshop Content Workshops and presentations reflect current issues in School Psychology and do not necessarily

imply endorsement by the ISPA Governing Board. Certain educational sessions are financially

supported by publishing companies. Author’s or publisher’s materials are likely to be emphasized.

Student/Intern Volunteer Opportunities We welcome student and intern participation with registration, workshop monitoring, and other convention activities. Volunteers will be reimbursed for each block of time they cover. Reimbursement will not exceed the total amount of registration fees. Please contact Colleen Hester at [email protected] as soon as possible to indicate your interest or to inquire about the responsibilities. Volunteers are assigned on a first come, first served basis.
