•1996: Inaugural Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit.

•1997: ASEF was established under the framework of ASEM process.

•2004: The partnership grew from 25 to 38 countries, plus the European Commission.

•2007: ASEM welcomed 6 new partners: Bulgaria, Romania, India, Mongolia, Pakistan andASEAN Secretariat (Total: 45 partners)

•2010: During the 8th ASEM Summit (Brussels, Oct 2010), 3 new members joined the ASEM process: Australia, New Zealand and Russia (Total: 48 partners)

AEC-NET: Going Forward• Increase visibility of the AEC-NET in ASEM

countries

• Align the AEC-NET with the new strategy of ASEF

• Enlarging AEC-NET with the involvement of new individual members, schools, new ASEM countries (Australia, New Zealand and Russia)

• Furthering the engagement of existing alumni of AEC-NET

• Introducing new elements to the programme to inject vibes to the programme.
