We banked on an 8% milk increase on 2-year-olds...

At our booth during the 2013 World Dairy Expo in Madison, Jan Sas of St. Davids, Newfoundland and Todd Hendrickson of Preston, Minnesota discussed their whole-herd use of Udder Comfort during stretches of bitter cold to improve circulation, and reduce potential for frozen teats.

They also talked about how no other product has surpassed the results they see with Udder Comfort over 7 years of routine use on fresh cows and heifers for a good start that persists profi tably through the lactation.

Jan noted how SCC at New World Dairy was lowered by 100,000 in the herd of 1000 cows when using Udder Comfort on all cattle pre- and post-calving.

Reduced swelling in the mammary system led to increased production based on improved peak milk, Jan explained.

In addition to the 75% decrease in rate of new infections, alongside lower SCC, we banked on an 8% milk increase on 2-year-olds due to improved peak yield.

Cost varies a bit, but one 500-ml bottle of Udder Comfort spray covered all pre- and post-calving use on 4 head. Even at $10 per animal, we fi gured a 15-to-1 return on investment when using the long term average California milk price to convert gains seen with this protocol.

At Roadside Dairy, Todd noted: Fresh animals always get Udder Comfort. They come into milk faster, milk out better, recover faster, and this routine helped us progressively lower our herds SCC average to 70,000.

For external application to the udder only after milking, as an essential component of udder management. Always wash and dry teats thoroughly before milking.
