HOGAR GERONTOLÓGICO ALEGRÍA DE VIVIR.

Carolina, es Auxiliar de Enfermería y trabajó como

Ecónoma Nutricionista durante 3 años. “Cambie mi

vida, mi sueldo, mis salidas, mi forma de pensar y todo

por darle calidad de vida a las personas de la tercera

edad”.

En el momento en que menos piensas tu vida dará un

giro de 360 grados, las cosas cambiarán un 100% y ya

no podrás realizar algunas de las actividades que solías

hacer anteriormente. Para muchas personas el mayor

temor es llegar a la vejez y tener que cambiar su ritmo

de vida por los achaques que genera esta edad.

En 2009 Carolina decide extenderle su mano a las personas de la tercera edady es ahí es donde nace el Hogar Gerontológico Alegría de Vivir, un proyectoque no ha sido fácil para Carolina, quien hace diariamente lo mejor que puedepara darle felicidad a los abuelitos que conforman el hogar. Para Alegría deVivir, es importante que un abuelito tenga alimentación, amor y sobre todo,que pueda pasar el resto de su vida siendo feliz y teniendo calidad de vida. Poresta razón, las personas que trabajan en esta fundación abrieron sus corazonesa los abuelitos del barrio Restrepo quienes ahora tienen un techo donde vivir.

Cuenta Carolina que a mediados de 2010 llegó al Hogar un joven con $300.000pesos para dejar a su mamá a cargo de la fundación porque él no podía estarcon Elvira durante el día ya que trabajaba y le era imposible estar a cargo deella. La fundación alojó a Elvira por 3 años, pero durante este tiempo su hijonunca volvió a aparecer. Para Elvira los días corrían, cada día que pasaba seconvertía en un miembro más de la familia yen mayo del 2013 Elvira falleció.

“Este es el entierro más triste, doloroso y sobre todo el mássolo que he presenciado en mi vida. Mi hija y yo éramoslas únicas personas que acompañábamos a Elvira durantesus últimos pasos en la tierra. Dos meses después que laenterré me encontré con su hijo en el centro y le reclameel porqué no había vuelto a ver a su mamá y sólo respondiódiciendo que yo era indigente y que estaba loca; Esto melo iba diciendo mientras se alejaba de mi y hasta estemomento nunca más volví a saber de él.

Esta es la razón que día a día me llena de motivos paraapoyar a las personas de la tercera edad. No quiero que sesientan desamparadas, solos o que no tengan ni que comerni donde dormir” Comenta Carolina.

Para Teleperformance Colombia es importante apoyara las poblaciones más vulnerables, es por eso que pormedio del Banco de Alimentos apoyamos al HogarGerontológico Alegría de Vivir realizando donacionesde 30 kits de aseo con crema dental, shampoo, papelhigiénico, entre otros elementos recolectados entrenuestros colaboradores. Así mismo algunos de ellosdonaron horas de su tiempo para los abuelitos de estafundación, dándoles recreación y felicidad.

Carolina is a Nursing Assistant and she workedas a Nutritionist Aid for 3 years. “I changed mylife, my income, my going out, my way of thinking,and all this to provide quality of living to peoplein the third age”.

At the moment you least expect it your life cantake a 360 degree turn, things will change 100%and you will not be able to do some of thethings you used to. For many, the greatest fearis growing old and having to change your wayof life because of all the ailments that comewith old age.

In 2009 Carolina decided to lend a helping hand to people in the third age,and this was how the old age home AlegrÌa de Vivir was born, a project thathas not been easy for Carolina, who every day does the best she can to offerhappiness to the old people at the home. For Alegría de Vivir, it is importantto provide the senior citizens good food, love, and especially to allow themto spend the rest of their lives being happy with good quality of living. Forthis reason, the people who work at the foundation have opened their heartsto the senior citizens of the Restrepo neighborhood, who now have a placeto live.

Carolina tells us that in mid-2010 a young man arrived at the home with$300,000 pesos to leave his mother in the care of the foundation. He said hecould not look after her during the day because he was working and it wasimpossible for him to care for her. The foundation took care of Elvira for 3 years,but during that time her son never showed up again. For Elvira the days passed,and every day she became another member of the family, and in May of 2013Elvira passed away.

“That was the saddest, most painful funeral, andespecially the loneliest one I have seen in my life. Mydaughter and I were the only two people with her duringher last steps on earth. Two months after the funeral Iran into her son downtown and I demanded to knowwhy he had never gone back to see his mother. All hesaid was that I was a crazy homeless lady. He said thisas he was walking away from me, and to this date I havenever heard from him again.“This is why every day I have more reasons to help peoplein the third age. I do not want them to feel unprotected,alone, or with nothing to eat or a place to sleep,” saysCarolina.For Teleperformance Colombia it is important toassist the most vulnerable people, and it is for thisreason that through the Food Bank we support theold age home Alegría de Vivir, giving them 30 kitscontaining toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper andother household cleaning items collected from amongour team. Some team members also volunteeredsome of their time for the senior citizens of thisfoundation to provide them recreation and happiness.“We are privileged because we have a job and greatopportunities; this is why the amount does not matter;what matters is your willingness to help other people,so they can also have these things. I invite everyone toparticipate in the social initiatives we support, whichare aimed at improving the quality of life of thoseinvolved and to contributing to their happiness,” saysClaudia Bohórquez, Director of Employee Experience.
