These sketchbooks are to be brought to class daily!

Please write your name and your period number on the inside of the sketchbook cover.

Week 1 Vocabulary

Sketchbook: A pad or book of drawing paper for sketching on.

Media: The materials we use to create art with.

Pattern: A choice of lines, colors, and shapes that are repeated over and over.

Negative Space: Shapes or spaces surrounding line, shape, or form; empty space.

Variety: The use of different lines, shapes, textures, colors, and or other elements of design to create interest in an artwork.

Week 2 Vocabulary

Subject: What you see in an artwork.Nonobjective: Art that shows line shape,

color, or form and suggests a mood or feeling, but has no recognizable subject.

Theme: The idea or topic that the artist expresses through his or her subject.

Style: A similarity you see in a group of artworks.

Four General Style Categories: Fantasy, Realism, Expressionism, Abstraction

Objectives:

Student will:Use an outline of block letters to spell out a

minimum of your first name on their sketchbook.Create variety and movement by layering block

letters on top of and behind one another in different sizes.

Develop interesting patterns to fill in negative space between letters.

Add color to make letters pop, creating a focal point.

Create Outline:

1. Using your pencil, start with the first letter of your name and place it on the bottom of the page in a block letter format. This letter becomes the “foundation” of the pile.

2. Then, begin adding the other letters, not necessarily in spelling order, around, behind, in front and on top of the first letter.

3. Try to fill the space from the top to the bottom with letters from at least your first name. Repeating letters is OK!!

4. When satisfied with design, outline with a sharpie.

Create Pattern:

4. After the letters are piled high (repeating letters is encouraged!), fill in the spaces with patterns.

Add Color:

6. Once the patterns are filled in, use markers to color in the letters. This makes your name pop.

7. When finished, use glue to attach to front of sketchbook.

Continue Patterned Name Tower Sketchbook. In Class due date: tomorrow.

Collect Procedures Papers.Finish Patterned Name Tower Sketchbook:
