7 Steps to
Better Results
On Facebook
1. Get more fans
To get good results from Facebook you need fans. Some business get 26 fans on Facebook
then give up because nothing is happening. You need to get at least more than 150 fans.
After this amount a few things happen
Social proof takes effect so that when people come to your page they see other
people have liked it and join in
Your chances of getting at least one comment or like for every post is much higher.
Every comment or like ensures that your story is seen by more people.
Your page gains momentum as more people see what you write and over time their
friends also see this which leads to even more total likes for your page.
Get more fans by
Inviting all your current contacts and networks, via email, Facebook and in-store
Offering an incentive and reminding people and making it easy for them

2. Post more often
Most businesses do not post often enough on Facebook. How often should you post? Every
day or second day. When you “get time” or once a week will not get you results on
Facebook. We give our clients a “posting plan” which allows them to do all their Facebook
posts in an hour or so for a whole month.
3. Post the right things that your customers will find interesting
Most businesses fail on Facebook because they post what they find interesting, but haven’t
stopped to think if it is actually interesting for their customers. “You are not your customer”.
Stop and think before you post something on Facebook and ask yourself “will my customers
find this interesting?” As business owners and experts in our field we often want to post
quite technical, new “whiz-bang” and complicated product information. In fact all our
customers want is the simple explanation of how to fix their problem. Write out the 10
questions you get asked most frequently in your store by your customers. Answer these one
at a time on Facebook.
What not to post – “sale, sale, sale”. People get sick of this very quickly. Facebook is word of
mouth advertising for you, don’t use it as a pushy sounding daytime TV ad.
4. Post at the right time of day and right days
To succeed on Facebook you must post at the right time? What is the right time? It varies for
every business. In general people use Facebook more after work and on weekends.
However you need to monitor your insights to ensure this is the tiem that works for your
customers. Test and measure.
5. Post more personal and non-business items
People are on Facebook to be social. Continually we find more personal items and non-
business related posts are the most read posts that we and our clients post.
Tell your customers what you have been up to and comment on local news and weather.
6. Monitor your insights
The insights panel is the most powerful tool you have to getting great results from Facebook.
For most businesses it is the most under-utilised. Become familiar with insights and how it
works. Look at your fan growth, your percentage of people that have seen your posts and
your PTAT score.
7. Tell your customers what you want them to do
Include a call to action in your posts. If you want your customer’s opinion on a post, ask for
it. If you want them to come into the store to take advantage of a new special, tell them to
come into the store today before 3pm, etc.
