You must ensure that staff you delegate as responsible for Health & Safety tasks are trained in the latest procedures.
Your staff may be watching the health & safety in the workplace, but it is your responsibility, as the business owner, to make sure that the regulations are not being ignored

Pitfall 3 – Not Educating Personnel Responsible For Health & Safety
Issues.
You, as the owner, MUST lead by example.
If, for example, you have signs instructing staff to wear safety equipment and then you go into the workplace and ignore the instructions, they will assume that they can do the same!

Pitfall 4 – Not Leading By Example
Just having signs up and copies of the Act in prominent places in your business premises is not enough.
Staff need training on aspects of the Act that affect them in the course of their daily working practices.

Pitfall 5 – Not Educating Your Workforce.
Accidents will happen no matter what precautions you take.
You must record these incidents, no matter how small, before they are forgotten as this breaks the Health and Safety Regulations.

Just because you know that you do not touch electrical sockets with wet hands, do not assume that your workforce will share that thought!
