SIX CAR BUYING TIPSMiller-Nicholson

When the time comes to go car shopping, be prepared with these six tips!

Do your research first

Take some time to look into what you may want or need in a vehicle, such as fuel efficiency, which can be found at www.fueleconomy.gov. Check out the ratings on sites like NHTSA, Consumer Reports and JD Power for safety statistics and overall driver satisfaction. You can also get an idea of what a fair price is for the vehicle you want by researching on Kelly Blue Book, AutoTrader or even eBay.

1

Check your credit

2

You will want to check this before you buy and have a good idea of where your credit score is before applying for financing. You can look up your current score on CreditKarma’s website.

Call your insurance company

When you have some specific options in mind, it is a good idea to call your insurance company to ask what your premiums will be if you purchased one of these vehicles. The rates could be very different from one model to the next and knowing what you can expect can help you know if you’re making the right decision.

3

Make a game plan

4

Car buying can be a long process. Planning to make a day of it may help you be more prepared. Get a good night’s sleep and have a good breakfast before going.

Visit multiple dealerships

To make sure you’re getting the best deal, it’s a good idea to visit a few dealerships in your area to price shop. However, you don’t want to get worn out doing too much in one day!

5

Don’t give in to pressure

6

You should love the vehicle you are going to purchase. If the price doesn’t seem right or the car isn’t quite what you expected, it’s OK to keep looking.
