Families learning together - Circle of SecurityAt the end of 2017, Lutheran

Community Care received devastating news that we had lost government funding for our successful playgroups in Alice Springs. Since then, it has been a very difficult time for all who were involved, as we were forced to stop running this popular program.

Over the years, our staff worked hard to build the playgroup to benefit many families. Now we must explore other ways we can help strengthen families in Central Australia.

This recent news has not stopped our dedicated staff members, Dolly Hampton and Leeanne Swan from reaching out to families in our local community.

Determined to turn a negative situation into a positive one, Dolly and Leeanne are launching a Circle of Security program, which will teach those who attend the course about

children’s emotional intelligence and brain development.

Circle of Security is an eight-week course that falls under the Families Learning Together Program. It is a relationship-based early intervention

program, which aims to improve parents’ communication with their children and help them better understand their children’s emotions.

Most parents can benefit greatly from a program like this, as it is non-blaming and focuses on the connection through the relationship and how this can be enhanced.

Sign up now before the next school term starts!

Circle of Security - 8 sessions Mondays and Wednesdays 10.30am to 12pm - LCC Office 55a Gap Road, Alice Springs Phone 08 8953 5160

International Womens Day Breakfast held in Alice Springs on March 8Andrea Mason CEO Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara(NPY) gave an inspiring talk on the theme – ‘Change in Motion: Women leading together’.

Andrea spoke about Women past and present who have said “We’re not going to take it any more” and have through their actions as individuals, caused changes to improve women’s status and wellbeing over the years. Some changes have been ‘Hard Changes’ in they have made permanent change – more recently short ‘Liquid Change’ via social media has grown to have rapid wide reaching influence.

Andrea commended the strength of local Alice Springs women, leaders who are managers, small business owners, those who work in Domestic Violence Services, Disabilities and Child Protection.

Andrea invited the audience to join in singing the words of this song. The women sung to strengthen their resolve to fight for change as a collective voice.

LCC Alice Springs Op Shop

Coordinator, Ginger Meredith is always looking for donations to help keep the shop fully stocked.

However, she also sends clothes to other organisations in need, such as the Ti-Tree Op Shop.

Ginger recently received a Thank you letter from Ti-Tree local school. The Principal said, “The School community very much appreciated the donated clothes.”

Please continue to support us this year.
