5 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day with Kids
Memorial Day is celebrated annually to remember those who lost their lives while protecting and serving our country in the U.S. armed forces.
With the following activities, you can teach your children about the importance of Memorial Day and show appreciation for fallen soldiers, current military personnel, and veterans.
Thank You cards are a great way to thank military personnel for serving our country. The kids will enjoy learning about the history of Memorial Day, while creating homemade cards for servicemen and women overseas.
Send Thank You Cards
Contact a local organization that helps veterans and ask how you can help. Whether you visit a sick veteran in the hospital or help a local veteran with their grocery shopping or household chores, it will be a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
Help a Military Veteran
Share the importance of Memorial Day, while making homemade shirts. Tie-dye a plain white t-shirt using red and blue dye, and use stencils and fabric markers to draw stars and other patriotic designs. Complete the look with military lanyards and pins!
Wear Patriotic Clothing
Teach your children patriotic songs like The Star-Spangled Banner, I'm Proud to Be an America, and God Bless America. You can sing them while you enjoy your other Memorial Day activities!
Sing Patriotic Songs
Celebrate Memorial with a patriotic picnic. Invite local veterans and their families and serve patriotic foods and beverages. Don’t forget to weary your patriotic clothing!
Have a USA-themed Picnic
Have a Happy Memorial Day!
