I treasure the little moments of joy thatcome with being a mom to little ones. Idon’t take for granted the closeness Ishare with my young children and I hopewe continue to be as close andcommunicative as we are today.

As an exercise in gratitude, I culled a fewmoments of reflection about the aspectsof motherhood that I cherish.

There are so many great things that my 4‐year‐old and 6‐year‐old are teaching me—about myself and about life.

Here are just a few of the greatest lessonsso far.

Patience01 There’s nothing like trying to leave thehouse on time with two young kids thatwill help you learn to adjust andreadjust, because there’s alwayssomething. Getting the sneakers on.Packing backpacks. These are the littleordeals that seem big when you’rerushing to get the kids to school andand get yourself to the office. Over theyears, though, I’ve learned more andmore to just go with the flow.

Selflessness02

I love being the kind of mother whopitches in when my kids are doingsomething that’s exciting or importantto them. Like so many mothers, it makesme happy to make my kids happy. Evenif it means staying up all night to make50 costumes for son's kindergartenclass play!

Wonder03Seeing the world through my children’seyes is priceless. It’s just so joyful. Mykids teach me to see things with thebeauty, innocence and excitement ofseeing something for the first time.

Acceptance04It can be tough to answer some of their questionsand put it in terms they understand. How much doyou tell them and how much do you shield themfrom? You want them to be aware of the realworld but you don’t want to needlessly overwhelmthem with too much information too soon. I do mybest to navigate their curiosity because I want tomake sure they’re well adjusted.
