We know that many of our foods contain toxic ingredients, contaminants and additives yet still we eat them. We know that the majority of personal care products, creams, lotions, potions, shampoos and conditioners contain toxic chemicals, but we still use them. The products we use to clean our homes – and even the materials we use to build and furnish them – can harm us. And yet still we do it. Well, here I offer you five simple habits that you can use to save your health, in spite of what our greedy capitalist societies throw at us. 1. Read and Understand the Ingredients List Instead of mindlessly picking up your usual items as you go around your supermarket, take a little extra time and have a look at the ingredients list on the reverse of the packaging of every product you put in your trolley. If you don’t recognise an ingredient, don’t buy the product. It’s more than likely a chemical or an artificial additive of some kind. It’s not something you want to rub into your skin or put in your stomach. Manufacturers add ingredients such as preservatives, flavouring and colouring that all started life in a laboratory. These ingredients prolong the life of products so that the manufacturer can save on wastage costs, or they cover the smell of something not very nice. Consider how many ‘white’ lotions and potions you use on your body. How much bleach is therefore used? Many of the chemicals added to consumables have actually been linked to cancer. Sodium nitrite for example, can be found in hot dogs, sausage, bacon and luncheonmeat products and yet it is known to cause brain tumours, leukaemia, colon cancer and pancreatic cancer. Sodium nitrate is added to food so that the food looks fresh and red. It’s a smokescreen – the food is not fresh. Many shampoos contain parabens, estrogen-mimicking compounds which have been linked to breast cancer. Yet, how many women stand in the shower and wash their hair and let those suds slide all the way down their bodies? Many popular branded perfumes and cosmetic products contain twenty of more cancer-causing chemicals, but you won’t find the ingredients listed on the label because they are a “proprietary secret” and the manufacturer doesn’t want their product stolen. Have you ever watched a TV commercial and thought to yourself, “That facial moisturizing cream manufacturer has made that ingredient up?” Well, you’d be right. The name is made up and the ingredient comes from a science lab. 2. Second Guess Your GP The problem with doctors, especially GPs, is that they need to know something about everything. This means

5 Simple Habits That Will Help You Live Longer

Given that we are mostly intelligent and rational humanbeings how come we risk our lives and our health every day,day after day, by putting stuff into or onto our bodies that isharmful?

We know that many of our foods contain toxic ingredients, contaminants and additives yet still we eat them. We knowthat the majority of personal care products, creams, lotions, potions, shampoos and conditioners contain toxic chemicals, but we still use them. The products we use to clean ourhomes – and even the materials we use to build and furnishthem – can harm us. And yet still we do it.

Well, here I offer you five simple habits that you can use to save your health, in spite of what our greedycapitalist societies throw at us.

1. Read and Understand the Ingredients List

Instead of mindlessly picking up your usual items as you go around your supermarket, take a little extra time andhave a look at the ingredients list on the reverse of the packaging of every product you put in your trolley. If youdon’t recognise an ingredient, don’t buy the product. It’s more than likely a chemical or an artificial additive ofsome kind. It’s not something you want to rub into your skin or put in your stomach.

Manufacturers add ingredients such as preservatives, flavouring and colouring that all started life in a laboratory. These ingredients prolong the life of products so that themanufacturer can save on wastage costs, or they cover thesmell of something not very nice. Consider how many ‘white’lotions and potions you use on your body. How much bleachis therefore used?

Many of the chemicals added to consumables have actuallybeen linked to cancer. Sodium nitrite for example, can befound in hot dogs, sausage, bacon and luncheonmeatproducts and yet it is known to cause brain tumours, leukaemia, colon cancer and pancreatic cancer. Sodiumnitrate is added to food so that the food looks fresh and red. It’s a smokescreen – the food is not fresh.

Many shampoos contain parabens, estrogen-mimicking compounds which have been linked to breast cancer.Yet, how many women stand in the shower and wash their hair and let those suds slide all the way down theirbodies?

Many popular branded perfumes and cosmetic products contain twenty of more cancer-causing chemicals, butyou won’t find the ingredients listed on the label because they are a “proprietary secret” and the manufacturerdoesn’t want their product stolen. Have you ever watched a TV commercial and thought to yourself, “That facialmoisturizing cream manufacturer has made that ingredient up?” Well, you’d be right. The name is made up andthe ingredient comes from a science lab.

2. Second Guess Your GP

The problem with doctors, especially GPs, is that they need to know something about everything. This means

Page 2: 5 Simple Habits That Will Help You Live Longer

they are unlikely to be specialists in anything in particular. They will know more about what sort of drugs andsurgery can cure your ailments and less about nutritional healing or holistic treatments. You should be preparedto ask intelligent questions and if necessary get a second opinion.

3. Listen to What Your Body Is Saying

Take time to really consider how a certain food makes youfeel. You may be able to eliminate many common ailmentssuch as migraine, skin disorders, chest pain or tummy upsetsjust by considering your food triggers.

Listen particularly to your cravings. Cravings tell you exactlywhat you’re missing from your diet, but you have to learn tospeak the same language as your body. You may cravecrisps/chips or salty snacks, but what your body is saying isthat you have a deficiency in salt minerals. You need to findhealthy ways to satisfy the cravings. If you crave chocolateyour body may be magnesium or serotonin deficient. A craving for sugar could be satisfied by eating more fruit.

4. Become a Cynic about Pharmaceutical Businesses and the Media

Any information you get about health issues from the mainstream media will be pharmaceutical propaganda thathas been twisted and influenced by big business money and spun by politicians. Not only that, when politiciansget involved, they’re likely to receive ‘benefits in kind’ for what they say about a product. Even medical journalsand science journals often receive a large amount of their income from advertising payments from bigpharmaceutical companies. Be very wary of what is disseminated and consider who benefits from what is said.

The media routinely attacks vitamins and minerals, natural remedies and alternative medicine, claiming they aredangerous or useless. This is never the case – it’s just that the big pharmaceutical companies will not get rich ifyou go to your local market and buy an organic cabbage.

5. Produce Some of Your Own Food

Everyone should produce some of their own food. Self-grownfood is fresh and nutrient-dense. It’s a million times moresatisfying to eat your own food and the actual act of growingand harvesting food is good for you. You can grow potatoesand carrots in containers, along with herbs and salad items, and of course tomatoes don’t take up much room in a growbag.

By taking on-board the skills in this article you will behealthier, more empowered, more questioning and lessdependent on a corrupt system.
