Outline of event (one hour, approximately): 5 minutes: As kids arrive, have them sit at drawing table and begin cutting their masks. 3-5 minutes: Welcome everyone and read the book aloud. 5-7 minutes: Have several staffers demonstrate the dance without music. 5-10 minutes: Still without music, ask all the kids to get up and try a few of the animal moves. For some groups it may help to assign a specific animal to each participant. 5-10 minutes: Start the music and dance (and repeat)! 10-25 minutes: Kids can now continue cutting their masks or working on the reproducibles. If you are serving refreshments, we suggest waiting until now. Don’t forget to promote your event on your website, event calendar, and social media. Use #Footloose4Kids to help promote the event. Tag @QuartoKids so we can share/retweet and join in the fun. Included in this kit: Poster (12x18 inches) folded Animal masks for kids! Jump up and down OR jump back and forth from one foot to the other foot.

Dance like your favorite animal! Check out these dancing-room-only ideas.

Do this:

Elephant! Put your nose to your shoulder, then stretch out your arm and swing it up and down — it’s your elephant trunk!

Duck! Open and close your hands and yell “quack quack!”

Tiger! Grab a partner, and do the tango! Dip your partner, stand up straight, walk a few steps, then turn around.

Flamingo! Shake your tail feathers!

Chimpanzee and Monkeys! Walk with your legs far apart, and swing your arms above your head.

Zookeeper! Jump back and forth.

Snake! Put your hands together, palm to palm, then hold them high above your head and wiggle your body side to side.

Hippo! Kick your right leg forward, then your left leg forward as high as you can!
