Mission: To significantly accelerate development of solid state laser technology for future High Power Laser programs

Goal: Demonstration of 100 kW-Class, Diode-Pumped SSL

Result: Laboratory proof-of-concept that electrically powered solid state lasers could be scaled to militarily useful power levels with acceptable beam quality

Purpose: Develop and demonstrate high power lasers with substantially improved system efficiency with more energy on target

Results:• Coherently combined fiber lasers

• 3 kW (3 fibers) with PIBE 22% (NG RELI)• Spectrally combined fiber lasers

• 3 kW (12 fibers) with PIBE 29% (LM RELI)• 30 kW (100 fibers) with PIBE 32% (LM IRAD)

• Planar Waveguide solid state laser• 14kW with PIBE 18% (RELI)

Payoff: Demonstrated TRL-5 laser sources with militarily useful size, weight, power that are affordable and ruggedized.

Advanced Beam Control for Locating & Engagement (ABLE)

What Is It?Beam Control System is responsible for identifying the target, pointing and maintaining the beam at the proper aimpoint, effectively delivering the laser beam (accuracy and atmospheric compensation), assessing a target kill, and rapidly engaging the next target in the cue.

What Does It Offer?An effective beam control subsystem that can be integrated onto a relevant military platform

Goals:• Beam-train loss ≤ 5% (Gaussian laser beam)• Improved tracking and aimpoint maintenance• Enhanced compensation for atmospheric

Atmospheric Propagation

• The AP TAWG provides environmental framework for ABLE– Facilitates and vets HEL field test campaigns involving JTO funding or endorsement– Conducts "forensic“ analysis to determine HEL propagation effects– Leads propagation effect modeling improvements

• Resolve anomalies and gaps in two problematic atmospheric regions:

– Near surface (1st 100m, both land and sea)– Atmospheric boundary layer top (dynamic
