It marks the first of two ESPN3 games on this year’s slate for the 49ers, along with the Conference USA opener at WKU Jan. 3. League tournament games in March in Frisco, Texas, are slated for coverage on either ESPN+ or ESPN3. }Redshirt junior Jade Phillips topped the 20-point plateau for the third time this season with a game-best 24 points in Wednesday’s contest against Wake Forest. }She has three of the four Niners’ 20-plus scoring performances this season and is joined by a 20-point showing from Jazmin Harris at Fordham Nov. 18. }Redshirt sophomore Christian Hithe has started her first 49ers’ campaign by defying normal rebounding logic. }Harris Claims First C-USA Freshman of the Week Honor}Charlotte center Jazmin Harris was voted the co-Con-ference USA Freshman of the Week, Nov. 12, after the season’s first week of action. }It marked her first career accolade and the 12th over-all C-USA plaudit in school history, all coming since the program rejoined the league in 2013-14 and all under head coach Cara Consuegra. }She is the sixth different 49ers individual to capture the 12 awards. }During her opening week of collegiate action, Harris averaged a team-high 14.5 points per game to go along with averages of 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 18.5 minutes. }She netted a career-high, and game-best, 19 points in the Nov. 11 triumph over Wofford. Eleven of her points came after halftime as she finished 8-of-13 (61.5 per-cent) from the floor.

}Season-Opening Success Continues}Charlotte won its ninth season opener in-a-row Nov. 8 when it claimed a 70-53 victory over UNC Asheville in-side Halton Arena. }The streak includes every opener this decade, dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, and a perfect 8-0 mark under head coach Cara Consuegra.

}Shutdown ‘D’ in First Quarter; First Half vs. Bulldogs}The 49ers put together a strong defensive effort in the first 10 and 20 minutes of their opener against UNC Asheville Nov. 8, holding the visiting Bulldogs to a com-bined 21 points in the opening half, including just six in

}Scoring and Size Highlight 49ers’ Two Signees}A multi-dimensional, diverse class has committed to play for the Charlotte women’s basketball program, as head coach Cara Consuegra announced two players who have signed National Letters of Intent for next season Nov. 15.}This year’s class features a record-shattering scorer Cali Konek a 5-7 guard from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the tallest player in school history, Angel Middleton, a 6-6 center from Charleston, South Carolina.

“We couldn’t be more excited to introduce these two young ladies to our Niner family,” Consuegra said. “For us, our mission is to always find the absolute best players we can find. Players that are also great, off the court and demonstrate our core values of H.E.A.R.T. in all that they do. We feel like we found two great players who are go-ing to help us on the court but certainly also our values in H.E.A.R.T.“The most important thing is we expect both of these young ladies to impact us on the court, but also, they have a huge opportunity to impact us off the court. They’re great students, great citizens and great people with good character. They will represent our program well, at the university and in the community.”

“Cali was a really important need for us. We went into this recruiting class looking for a shooter, someone that can just knock down shots for us, extend the defense and open up some things for some of our players who are really good at getting to the rim and attacking. We watched Cali for a while and knew she was a player we wanted on our roster. She is the type of player who will fit in with us right away and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to our 49er family.”

“Angel is just incredible to know that we’re signing her because we have been recruiting her for a very long time. We actually offered her in eighth grade. To offer a play-er that young and know that we believed in her, and for her to believe in us back through that entire recruiting journey, is just a thrill for us to bring her here. She fits a need we have in that we want to continue to grow our post game. To bring in a player that is 6-6 but has great hands and great feet, as well as catch and be a high-level competitor, she checks all the boxes for us. We know she will have the ability to come in and help us right away.”

the first period. }The 21 points tie for the eighth-fewest allowed by Charlotte in a half since the format switch to quarters for the 2015-16 campaign. }The six points in the first quarter tie for the third lowest total by an opponent in any period during the last three-plus seasons and mark the 23rd time in which a foe was held to single digits in any quarter.
