The 4x4 drive means the torque of the engine is received by all the four wheels. This all wheel drive is normally seen on off-roaders, SUVs and racing cars. There are many all wheel drive vehicles available in India. The Mahindra brand has the Scorpio, the Bolero, the XUV 500 and the Thar. The Tata has the Safari Dicor, the Safari Storme and the Aria. The other important all-wheel drive vehicles are the Toyota Fortuner, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ford Endeavour AT, the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Renault Koleos, the Maruti Grand Vitara and the Honda CRV. The Maruti Gypsy is the only petrol model with 4x4 drive. The SUV Renault Duster is the latest 4x4 car launched in September 2014.The Maruti Suzuki S Cross SX4 is expected in the first quarter of 2015. This Crossover based on the sedan SX4 is expected to be priced Rupees 8 to 14 lakh. The diesel models will be powered by a turbocharged 1.6 litre engine developing 125 bhp and the petrol variants by a 1.6 litre, 125 bhp engine. The transmission will be 5 speed manual or 6 speed CVT (for the petrol variants) and the drive will be AWD for some of the variants.

The Jaguar XE is another entry level sport car getting ready for 2015 launch. This 4x4 car from the British manufacturer will be available for an expected price of 28 to 45 lakh. The car will be powered by different engines with capacities 1.8 to 2.5 litre producing 184 to 300 bhp. The Audi brand is also planning to introduce the off-roading model QX4 in the Q range early next year. The expected price is Rupees 35 lakh. The hatchback A1 with all wheel drive is expected in January 2015 at a price of Rupees 11 to 14 lakh. The 2.0 litre, 180 ps engine will be mated to a 6 speed auto or manual transmission with all wheel drive. The Audi A5 sedan with the Quattro AWD is also expected in 2015.The Fiat will be launching the Jeep Wrangler a 4x4 off-roader in 2015 at a price of Rupees 25 to 32 lakh with a 2.8 litre, 180 ps engine. The 4x4 SUV Grand Cherokee priced Rupees 35 lakh approximately is also expected in 2015. The Skoda Superb priced Rupees 20 to 25 lakh is expected to have 4x4 drive on its top variants.
