http://www.mworker.com/en/4-personal-strategy-tips-of-freelancer-stress-management/ For many who have never worked independently, freelancing often seems like a stress-free life. Freelancers, of course, know that unfortunately it is far from being true. For many reasons such as project deadlines, finances, and need to find your own work, stress becomes a daily experience of many freelancers. Let’s be reasonable, becoming completely stress free is impossible. Not for a freelancer, anyways. Yet, here are a few ways that I personally try to reduce my work-related stress. In my very short freelancing career I am finding that the only way for me to manage the stress is to work on a stress-free life outside my work. Our work will always be stressful. And I experience time and again that I can perfectly manage that if I am otherwise a happy person. So, here is my strategy in a few sentences. 1. Set work hours. Have clearly set work hours. Freelancing is tricky that way. You can work where you want, when you want. The nightmare begins when this literally turns into working everywhere and anytime. Try to set your working hours and stick to them. Of course, you will have days when you will have no choice but to work into the night, but make those days a rare exclusion rather than a norm. 2. Plan your free time. I plan my work (most of the time), but I often fail to plan my free time. And then when I actually get my free time, I often feel lost not knowing what to do. That doesn’t help. Free time is to be enjoyed. Plan on what you will do, so that you can get the most out of it. 3. Socialize. Research shows that social isolation kills more people than obesity does. Be around people. Be around happy people with a positive attitude to the world. That is contagious. If you find this a curious fact, you can read more in this article . 4. Laugh. Yes, laugh. If you find that you haven’t laughed all day, make a conscious effort. Watch something really funny and laugh out loud. That’s it. There are plenty of lists on how to reduce freelancing stress that explain all about time management, plan and productivity. They are all great. It‘s just that often I am really bad at following that advise. When I work, I work. I get stressed. But I can manage that pretty well if I plan and enjoy my free time, hang out with positive people and laugh. By Egle Songailiene LCC Innovation Lab
