Al Mawakeb School... a special home for 14 years...Robert Fulghum once said, “All I really needed toknow about how to live, what to do, and how tobe, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not ontop of the graduate school mountain, but it wasfound there in the sand pile at school.” Within theClass of 2015, a number of students are worthy ofa special mention. They comprise the elite groupthat have spent 13 or 14 years at AMSI.As we look fondly upon their faces, we look backin time and see the once awkward pre-teens ofyesterday or the uncertain kindergarteners of theday before who now stand tall and fine before us.Little did they know that although their firstimpression may not have foreshadowed it, highschool would definitely make a lasting impressionon them, for their experiences here provided themwith the most powerful foundation, not only aca-demically but also personally.Tonight, they choose where they go from here andhow to get there. They take with them all that theyhave learned throughout their journey. Theseexperiences and memories will help shape thepeople they choose to become. May they alwaysremember the simplest yet most profound lessonslearned from the first day they walked into school.

The lessons learned as three-year-olds will be theones that will remain forever significant andembedded in their minds:

Share everything.Play fair.Don’t hit people.Put things back where you found them.Clean up your own mess.Don’t take things that aren’t yours.Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody.Live a balanced life-learn some and think some and draw andpaint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, holdhands, and stick together.

so many skilled orators...So many skilled orators gathered to gain the opportunity to speakon behalf of their classmates. This was their chance to express theirfeelings, happiness, gratitude and anxiety about leaving this familiarhome to seek new accomplishments. As usual, the judges had thechallenging task of choosing the best, and the best were many, forall of them spoke words from the heart. So many impressed anddazzled with their sincerity, confidence and maturity. The soreswere close, but finalists were finally selected.

Again, more rigorous auditions, finally, our anxious finalists rushedto hear the results… sounds of murmurs, beating hearts and sighsfilled the room, but only to be later replaced by triumphant andwonderful cries expressing how honoured and fulfilled they felt athaving been chosen.

When I thought about volunteering to speak at the first audition, I was slightlyuneasy at first; later, however, I felt confident enough to know that I would befulfilling a dream and making my family proud. I have been in this institution thatnurtured and helped me prosper for 14 years… an institution that I am more thanproud to call my second home. When it was announced that I was shortlistedamong a list of talented and determined speakers, I was ecstatic, enthusiastic, andin complete awe. It was truly a euphoric moment and a transcendent feeling. Ithank my friends, my family, my teachers, and in particular my school for help-ing me identify my own self-potential and for having strong faith in my ability todeliver a speech in front of a multitude of people.

I stood before a committee as a nominee for an extremely significant prize, thehonor of representing the class of 2015 on our graduation night. At that verymoment, I was just an aspiring student wishing to grab your attention and work-ing towards impressing you. At that very moment I was just another voice amongmany you are hearing. At that very moment I was no more than just another can-didate but no less than a determined competitor. Time is unfathomable; it is ameasurement that man has set to one of God’s most bewildering concepts; it isan idea of the passage of something essential. With one simple tick of the clock,millions of things happen; souls are brought to life and others let go… memoriesare made and others are lost… people come and people go… students graduate

and experience the beginning of a new era in their lifetime. With one tick of the clock a moment passes, and thismoment is no exception. At that very moment, I may have been just a candidate, but what the next moment car-ried was an absolute mystery. What is not a mystery though is the feeling of complete delight and excitement witha hint of nervousness that I felt towards being selected as one of the finalists.

Orating the graduation speech of my dear school was a dream ever since I hadheard about it as a child. I’ve always had dreams but never expected them to turninto reality. Because of Al Mawakeb School, my dreams are no longer out ofreach, my personality is no longer simple, and my beliefs are no longer depend-ent. I truly owe my school for changing me from a wide-eyed infant to a maturedecision-taker. Of course, without my teachers’ help and care throughout theyears, I wouldn’t have made it this far. Their dedication and generosity helped meand others grow. Today, I am extremely grateful for standing before you. I sin-cerely want to thank the judges for giving me the opportunity to perform onceagain. The chance of representing the class of 2015 in such a memorable cere-
