Hunt the Winter – Tamilnadu Update:
Ms. Keerthi, working for Infosys, Chennai motivated by abhaya “HUNT THE WINTER” Project and started sharing the mission with her fr iends and colleagues at Chennai and pooled resources for 35 blankets. abhaya wish to place its appreciation to Ms. Keerthi for her kind hearted support.
First of all, I would like to thank Abhaya for the opportunity given to me to serve. I am very proud to be a part of Abhaya Foundation. I wish to share how I initiated to propagate about abhaya in Chennai. I spoke to of my friends here in Chennai about the Abhayan and then sent an introductory mail regarding abhaya. Many of friends came forward to give their helping hand to the needy through abhaya. I suggested them to visit www.abhayafoundation.org and started forwarding the mails which I often receive from Abhaya to all my friends. By seeing the good work done… they have decided to contribute some of the amount from their savings every month.
As of now we all could pool about Rs.3,500/- for the Hunt the Winter Project initiated by abhaya. I would also like to mention that the entire credit goes to the volunteers of this foundation without whom these huge responses and applauds from people wouldn't have been possible. God bless all 'abhayans' who stood in-front stretching their hands to help the people. - A. Keerthi, Infosys, Chennai
We wish to share our good experience of carrying out the "Hunt the winter" project jointly done by Abhaya with IWC-Dist319 Bangalore on 6/12/10.

On 6/12/10 we had an opportunity to participate in this mission and have been able to provide some relief for these people by distributing 66 pcs of Abhaya Blankets as part of our "Hunt the Winter" campaign. These patients are screened and selected from various villages around Bangalore and brought into the Eye Hospital for 3 days. Eye surgeries will be conducted by qual i f ied Doctors. We are very happy to see the glitters in the eyes of the recipients and are blessed to receive their good wishes as well - Savitha Hariprasad, Bangalore

Hunt the Winter – Karnataka Update:
Abhaya handed over 200 blankets at Home of Hope. It was a great inspiration to meet Auto Raja, the Founder of New York Mission who rescued 3800 destitutes at Bangalore since 15 years. Almost 20 abhayans including President SV. Hariprasad and Secretary SN. Rangaiah were present at the occasion.
CS. Thirupal, Practicing Company Secretary, Bangalore added life to “HUNT THE WINTER” Project initiated by abhaya. He with the passion to help the needy who were affected due to cool breeze on the road side of the city motivated almost 25 young and dynamic working professionals to be part of this mission. He along with team distributed more than 100 blankets.
abhaya wish to place its gratitude to CS. Thirupal for his kind hearted supported.
We appreciate Abhaya Foundation philanthropy activities. Myself and Mr.
Satyaprasad and Mr. Rahim (Saleem's brother) visited Yeshwanthapur rly station
on 25.12.2010 and distributed blankets for needy people. It was nice experience
and really we felt so much of happiness, when we have provided the blankets to
the people, who were sleeping on the pavements and in front of the shops, few
without any cover and few were covered with old tear cloths. We could sense the
happiness of those people, when we have covered them with the blankets. Our
visit was successful and I thank the 'Abhaya Foundation' for giving this
opportunity to serve the utter needy people. If future too, I am open for like these
programs and can support you, if needed.

Mission Santosh
Just back from a visit to KEM Hospital, Pune, for a consultation with Dr. Atul Goel, renowned Neurosurgeon. We went there as a specific advise of Dr. TN Rao who operated first time on Santosh. Here is a brief update.
tLeft for Mumbai on 27th. Prasad, Sailaja and Santosh also came along.
tShowed Santosh to Dr. Goels's panel of doctors for an examination, Santosh is much better than before and responded very well. Throughout the journey he was alert and also able to take the journey strain.
tDr. Goel later examined MRI & CD's and had a simple conclusion for us – in his opinion, at this time doing any treatment on Santosh is very dangerous for him – be it radiation or embolization both are equally dangerous and it can potentiall kill the guy. So leave it alone for some time and let us revisit after 3 months or so.
tThis is a very deep seated AVM with key functionality of the body associated with it, including limbs, inner organs etc., so the only choice is to operate it and take it out, and it is going to be a high risk operation. As Santosh is in a relatively good condition , Dr. Goel's advise is not to do anything at this stage.
tI specifically asked what if he bleeds again ? His answer is a crisp – yes , he might and it could be serious, but we will think of operating at that time.
tDr. Goel has stressed the need to educate his parents accordingly and be financially prepared for any further emergencies.
tI will keep you posted further on this.

About 20 years back…when Jayaram was working in Konkan Railways construction sites in the mountains… when someone blasted the rocks, accidentally he was crushed under loads of stones and mud. 4 trucks of mud covered him and it took almost 2 days to bring him out. His back was severely damaged, it was beyond rapire. Since then he was laid on bed, he did not see the sun in the sky.
This story appeared in TIMES of India, Bangalore couple of years back…lot of help came to him, but it was never enough for him to have lifelong treatment. Subash Chhabria, an young Industrialist thought that he must do something to him and very innovatively he purchased a Colour TV & DVD for him so as to make to him to connect to the world around.
Later, he approached abhaya to assist Mission Jayaram in getting an electric chair to him to roam around in the village on his own. The cost was Rs.70,000/-. Abhaya readily provided Rs.35,000/- for the same during last year. He is now seeing the people. Very positive in nature.
Since then he is continuous touch with abhaya by SMS…every day he sents SMS saying “abhaya is GOD & his future. We understand that he is need of monthly expenses to the tune of Rs.15,000/- abhaya promised to provide Rs.7,500/- listening to this Subhash came forward to provide Rs.2,500/- PM. Now the need is Rs.5,000/- PM for meeting the medical expenses and checkups.

Based on the medical condition, the doctors will decide when she can go home. We convey our sincere thanks to all the abhayans who stood besides her during last 6 months. – Bijo, Medico Social Worker, St. John's Hospital, Bangalore

Mission Satyavathi
Mission Sofiya accomplished
Satyavathi is in need of helping hands at Dharmavaram. Entire story appeared in News Papers is real. Abhaya Team visited her house and family.
After meeting her, I felt very sad and wondered how they are living in this bone biting winter as we are unable to live with all warm clothing. It was very miserable to imagine how she is managing to live her normal life without three limbs. After talking to her, I came to know that she lost her limbs only, but not her hope. She has all her hopes on their kid and very much passionate to lead a normal life. With the response from the people after Eenadu advertisement, it may be very easy to save her with Jaipur foot and artificial limbs. There are so many other people, with need and waiting for a helping hand. But I wonder, how many can we help? The visit is an eye-opener to me. I realized that the need in this world is very high. Whatever we are doing is very less when compared with the need. - Sivakrishna
They need to have white ration card / Arogyasree card and the same is being arranged. She now need artificial limbs and opportunity to survive on her own. Paper news brought some financial help. Abhaya now considering to get artificial limbs by various means.

I am working in both the hospitals in different shifts. Due to my good work both of them want me to work full time whereas there was no work full day, I informed them that I will join them from Jan 1st 2011 and they accepted. And accordingly I submitted resignation letter in Medwin Hospital but the Director rejected the same stating that it is not accepted. He requested me to reconsider the decision and stay here only. He told me that he will provide accommodation and Increment in Jan 2011.

The 1st of this is month is very important for us and obviously I had the most memorable garbage system, followed by educating people on healthy habits and diseases.day, i.e. the thanks giving ceremony of abhaya foundation. It was a great learning for all of
Again on the last Sunday, I came to abhaya and happy to see the core team over there to us to know what all is happening in abhaya and who all are connected to it. And also abhaya discuss the open points of abhaya. I felt very happy seeing Siva's contribution to abhaya. made me as one of the trustees on the board which is truly beyond my imagination. Thank He is doing all the works which I used to do earlier with more efficiency. I am no more you for that. It is like giving more responsibility and values for me. Felicitating my mother worried about the website issues and online works seeing Siva because it will be difficult for with my hands is also one of the most hearty and memorable moments of my life on that me to do here after. I got my passport this month.day.
You booked my ticket to Mysore on 18th November which is Rs.1100/- and also transferred I worked on abhaya related few open points and website issues. Siva and I visited Gray logic Rs.5000/- to my account for expenses at Infosys, Mysore. I have to give Rs.1000/- to you office. I said them from here after Siva will handle the website issues as I may not be which I did not give at the time of giving my scholarship amount. So I received Rs.6000 available at Hyderabad from next month. On the second Sunday, we had the Volunteer from abhaya this month.meeting and it was very inspiring and fresh for me. It was related to the post AAROHAN
registrations. Finally I would conclude saying a big thanks to abhaya which gave me so many values, lessons, learning, responsibilities, opportunities, exposure, relations and memories. Abhaya made me to put all my thoughts in to words about my dream project and a great – Er. B. Sushma, Infosys, Mysore.series of incidents followed thereafter, which were all unbelievable for me!
On the 3rd Sunday, we all (Siva, Bhargav, Srikanth, Sindhu, Llaxminarayana, Ramprasad & Nishanth) visited kids care centers across Hyderabad, which is one more great learning and inspiration for me.
Next one week I went to my grandmother's village to attend one function and spend few days with my grandparents. The trip made me realize few more points on how to see a better country. This tour actually made me to feel that the development of India lies in development of villages. I observed that the first thing to be improved in the villages is Abhaya had given send off to Ms. Sushma when she left for Mysore to join Infosys.
I am fine and I am doing well. Last one month I have been held up with my academics. Following is the brief report of the November month:
u1st week I had my internal exams then followed my lab externals.
uMy external exams started on 15th and till then i had holidays for preparation.
u15th to month ending I had my externals. I did well in the exams.
uEvery day exam used to be at 2 pm noon. I start to college as usual and finish exam by 5 and used to reach hostel back by 7 30 in the evening.
uDuring the time of exams I stopped going for home tuitions due to the time schedules.
uI did't miss the Bal vikas sessions. Attended them regularly even during exams
uSoon after finishing exams I had been to my native place.
uI visited Prashanthi Nilayam and stayed there for days.
uMother is not feeling well and I took care of her during my stay there at home.
None of my expenditure was spent lavishly except for the travel charges to home and usual expenses. Now I am doing my stay at home and taking tuitions for some X class students.

I am fine here ...I know you are angry on me for not reporting for the last month. I don't want to give any reasons for not sending you but I can only say you sorry and in past two months lot and lot of things took place before saying those let me say you about my studies in 2 months I wrote two internals and I scored 90% in majority of the subjects. From 12th Jan I have the 1st sem and am trying my level best to score in my 1st sem. Now from 16th my 3rd internals start.
And coming to my college its going on well initially it was boring but now its fine as I told you I started conducting the seminars, debates, group discussions etc., two of my friends supported me. Even my c lass students were very interested in this and involved in this and I named this as "FUTURE VISION" and there are lots of activities going on but now I am planning for the preparation as there is hardly 1 month for preparation and I bought one desktop to the home. It costed Rs. 27000/-

This is Srilatha from Amarapuram. On November 1st
I attended the Abhaya yearly summit, and in my
school I am teaching Mathematics also because of
non availability of math teachers. Periods

students thereby I am not getting much
time for preparing for my exams.

Here I am doing fine, I am at my home as I have
holydays. My mother is suffering from high BP.
As there is no one in my home except my
mother, so I went to home to be with her. After
finishing my exams I thought this is the best
way of being support to Mother. I wrote my
exams very well and I am sure that I will get
more than 70%. I want to shift from my

Abhaya's plan is to run the school with no profit/ no loss basis and have plans to provide free education in that village with the help of Corporate partnership.
Though the initial thought was to make use of the resources generated from the school/training for development of school, it became impossible for the reason, that no one is paying even nominal fee.
As of now, there are about 180 students studying in the school from class 1 to 5 with fee ranging Rs.60/- to Rs.120/- and a team of ten teachers working there. Foundation is taking care of all the salaries and equipment related expenses. Following table describes the fund requirement for every month. Abhaya look forward to have corporate partnership to run the school free attracting hundreds of kids in the village.

Abhaya's vision is to have as many as permanent projects as possible giving life to as many people as possible so that the world becomes a wonderful place to live. As one of the Mission Initiatives of “abhaya's HEART” is Rural Infrastructure Development, abhaya identified a school in a remote village named Yerragunta, Kanekal Mandal (100 KMs from Ananthapur city) in Ananthapur district of AP to create a world with a difference. Following are the brief facts of the situation there:
uIn total 6000 population.
uVery back ward in thinking and doing the things.
u1200 school going children are there in village.
uOnly 600 go to the schools nearby.
uVittobha started a small school about 5 years back.
uThere were about 80 kids coming to their Vignan School.
uFee was just very little Rs. 50-100 PM.
uBut even this fee was not been paid by majority.
uSchool is being run by teachers with their own resources.
uThis became a burden as the teachers are also very poor.
uStill their effort continued to educate children in that village.
uFinancial constraints made their journey stalled.
uAdd life skills to the unemployed youth.
uIt recognized the dedication and capability of the teaching team.
uDecided to help them for their own sustenance.
uReestablish the school and run by foundation.
uAbhaya signed a MOU with the Trust/ land owners of existing facility over there.
Abhaya, find it as a great chance to improve the quality of the education

Our journey to Ananthapur - Bangalore was very inspiring and value adding to thousands of student along with the team.
The sessions with the thousands of students at KSR Govt. Girls College, Anantapur and Govt. Jr. College, Penugonda are value adding for me and as well as for the team. I remembered my college days and eagerly waiting for the real time meeting with students after long time. It is very common that the students normally do not show interest in career related and value adding speeches.
Abhaya team did some magic and entire student gathering there were listening to the words till the end. That is really memorable for me and that gave me a chance to speak to large gathering. The facts of their daily food are really pitiable. With the inspiration given by Abhaya, some of the lecturers came forward to help their own students, which is an encouraging move for the Ragi Muddha project in their college. With a team of 5, we were able to speak with 3000+ students and 50+ lecturers at a stretch. I hope the career graph pamphlets and the words of Abhaya will create a great impact on their future plans. I feel that even if 5% of the gathering transforms, that will be a big success for us.
Visiting all these places and speaking to so many people made me to think internally, what can I do from my side?
I don't know the exact and complete answer for my question, but I am always ready to join my hands and come with abhaya in any good work. I thank Abhaya for this wonderful opportunity.

GET Volunteer K. Sivakrishna addressing the students
Trip to Anantapur, Dharmavaram & Penukonda, Bangalore (17-19 Dec
2010) is very memorable and worth in spending time for many causes. I
failed to find the words to express my satisfaction and self-realization post
the events.
It was a great opportunity for me taking part in such a wonderful Educare
initiative of abhaya and Healthcare projects. I felt enlightened realizing
various aspects of life during the trip. It transformed me a lot. It was a true
learning, unlearning and relearning experience to me in seeing the other
side of the coin in life.
My sincere thanks & gratitude to CS Balachandra, CS Ramakrishna, Siva,
Ramprasad and Laxminarayan and all other counterparts for their kind
hearted support and valuable time spent with me. I wish to be part of all
such programs in the future too.
-CS. G. Thirupal, Practicing Company Secretary, Bangalore.
The trip was Amazing and educative, in the journey I gained information
along with CS. Thirupal, Lakshminarayana, and Siva. Every moment is
new for me during the 72 hours long journey.
Visit to the colleges: We were all briefed about various issues like where
are we going, information on what we have to focus, strange news on
health (anemia) of students etc., before we visited the Colleges… we
covered all facts and it was a blessing from god that they got a chance of
motivation and career counseling from abhaya's founder. For me it is a
long time opportunity to participate and speak in such public gathering
and I realized that I should be very careful and attentive with such tasks.
It is the 1st time, I saw the Collector's camp office and entered District
Collector's cabin and meeting Dr. Janardhan Reddy IAS and Ms. Anita
Ramachandran IAS, Joint Collector, happy to invite them for inaugurating abhaya Vignan School,
Yerragunta on 6th Januray'2010.
I thank abhaya and CS Thirupal for sharing so much of good stuff during our journey with me and
Siva. It is really a good opportunity for me. -Ch. Ramprasad, Sr. Engineer, HIL, Hyderabad.
I didn`t expect that you will have such an experience there… I
really missed a lot... what we could have done there? I thought
you may have addressed many students and inspired them
through your electrifying speeches of motivation and
inspiration… is it not?

to cover about
We are very proud of abhaya for the activities that has
been done, really a great work. Many times I am
tempted to contribute but as already I am committed to
contribute for educating 2 poor children since three
years, I am unable to do from my end. But, whenever I
receive any news updates from abhaya, I am forwarding
to my colleagues and others for information seeking
their kind help – G.Bhargavi Reddy, Company
Secretary, SPML Energy Ltd, Bangalore.
I am tired of appreciating abhaya every time as its work
reached beyond the appreciations and I don't think any
words are left for me to say anything about abhaya now.
Someone should find a new word of appreciation for the
people like you. You may not be expecting such things from
anyone but I just thought at least one should have sense of
appreciation when someone is doing good work. That is
what exactly I am doing right now. - CS V. Ahalada Rao,
Practicing Company Secretary, Hyderabad.
I personally feel abhaya team is
doing a great job even when it is
beyond the limitations. I am really
wondering how the team is able to
manage both professional job and
so many projects of Abhaya. I wish
all the best for all the abhayans
across the country – M Aruna,
Executive Officer, CII, Hyderabad.
Caring words leading to loving works
