3 Deadly Job Hunting Myths to Avoid

You might probably have some ideas going around in your mind that you are using in getting yourself employed. You might not know that these thoughts are actually just job hunting myths. I have enumerated three job hunting myths for the purpose of letting you know so that you would be able to focus more on getting a job without straying from the correct methods.

1. A great way to search for opportunities is through online job postings is the first in our list of job hunting myths. Well, you might have a different idea about this. But you have to know that online job postings only contribute to a very small percentage of people getting employed, just about 3 percent.

Job seekers wrongfully think of searching for and submitting their job applications through online job boards. What they do not know is that there would be more candidates that they need to vie with, more time spent on just waiting and even more chance of getting frustrated.

2. Employment agencies and recruiters can help you land a job is the second on our list of job hunting myths. They are probably helpful in your search for a job but you need to take heed that it would be their clients who are hiring you and not them. A lot of people fall into the idea that these agencies and recruiters are already a direct link to hiring companies. This may be the truth but it is a disadvantage in your part.

Just think of this, employers will still have to shed money to pay these agencies and recruiters when the vacancies are filled. That payment is part of your income. You do not want to be paid less than what you have worked for, right?

3. Only younger people can make use of social networking sites is the third on our list of job hunting myths. This is definitely false. If you look closely into how things work online, you will find that more and more older people and not only the young ones are making use of social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter to search for employment. You have to realize that companies are also using these sites to find a pool of skilled people without discriminating on age.

Use of social networking does not ask you for any fee. You also do not need to exert a lot of effort in presenting yourself to employers because you already have your profile up for viewing.

When you are on a job search, you do not have to just focus on conventional methods. You have to make use of advanced media to optimize your potential of getting employed. You have to study the business, make use of online tools and showcase yourself to employers. Do not fall victim to doing job hunting myths.
