CAUSES LEAD TO STADIUM COLLAPSE ON 2009


Claimed that the roof doesn’t get the

approvement certificate (Sijil Siap Kerja)


According to Utusan on June 3rd, the problem had

been detected since the official opening of SUKMA 2008


Dato’ Ahmad Said: “The failure caused by the design

was made not according to specs”


Vice director of JKR (Terengganu) had been contacted for

immediate action, because the warranty

with contractor is still valid


There was insufficient support during the

dismantling work, which resulted frame

collapsing in a domino-like situation


The dismantling process cost RM 1.7 million and

was started in October 2012

The engineering company should use good quality materials & monitor the workmanship of their workers.

Don’t just think about profit without considering adverse effects which may occur in the future.

Duty EthicsResponsible parties should take immediate action

when they notice any problem.

However, they turned a blind eye and act like

nothing has happen.

Virtue EthicsShould show good character instead of bad character.

There must be a good reason behind each specification.

Should follow all rules and specification without neglecting even one small detail.

CODE OF CONDUCT

“A registered engineer shall at this times hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public”

They can be considered as neglected the safety of the public.

In this case, a consultant engineer was charged. Wan Manan was alleged to have acted like an approved examiner in

issuing a document dated Jan 15, 2009.

The engineer has disobey the rule that has been set up by BEM without thinking the bad consequences.

Responsible engineers involved should not remain silent while getting complaints about unusual vibration during

abseiling session conducted.

Engineers who has knowledge on the structure supposedly should take immediate future action on the complained receive.

5.9 “A Registered Engineer shall not offer to make by way of commission or any other payment for the introduction

of his professional employment. By that this case should not happen”

Another cause that may lead to the accident is bribery. They may not mention in the public, but there are engineer that has

been charged due to its action giving approval to the document that supposedly not viable.

Unethical problem will cause lots of problem to any kind of project or the person itself

It is necessary for engineers to applied the ethical code and use the code of conduct as guideline

Engineer must understand the dimension and impact of the profession, the need for ethics
