• There are various types of 2 and 3-dimensional (2D and 3D), which helps students in the learning process.

• These materials are commonly used materials that we do not pay attention to the importance of this material in the teaching and learning

• The material includes printed materials, graphs, charts apart realia, models and real objects. Realia materials and models are real material brought into the classroom.

Definition of 2 Dimensional (2D) materials

• 2D materials refer to materials with length and width. This material is flat and is not designed to provide depth. Some examples of 2D material including photographs, prints and posters which have only two characteristic, the width and length.

Among 2D material are:1. Printed Material - include textbooks, reference

books, worksheets and printed materials provided by the teacher.

2. Chart – organizational chart is more often used to classify or show category about specific materials, events, and species of animals or plants according to the group. Students can clearly see if the teacher shows the classification chart.

3. Graph- The graph is a visual representation of a set of data that explains about the relationship and the changes that occur in the data set.

4. Poster- The poster is a painting or print that incorporates the use of lines, letters and colors in a visual presentation featuring one or more specific messages.

• Image is the visual representation of people, places or things. Photos can be obtained from magazines, newspapers, posters, postcards and calendars.

• Map refers to an abstract representation of a real place where people live. Map consists of visual symbols, lines, and colors

Definition of 3 Dimensional (3D) materials

Refers to a material that has length, width and height. 3D objects comprises of various shapes like cuboid, cone, cube, sphere, models, dioramas, and realia.

Realia

• Realia material is real material. Examples of realia are like leaves and small animals that can be found in the environment.a) Natural Realia

• This is a living material, such as earthworms, grasshoppers, and so on,

• the actual material (non-living) such as machinery, equipment and other.

b) Preserved Realia

• The materials of life that has been preserved and stored in a chemical liquid. For example, fish and insects.

(C) Specimens

• This is a sample of life that could represent a specific group of living creatures that have the attributes or the characteristics which commonly found in the group. Specimens usually found in the form of preservatives.

• For example, leaves and shrimp

• Diorama is an exhibition of a model to describe the state of a form or a view about the origin of the situation.

• Puppet can be used as an effective teaching aid, especially for language lessons or moral education. Some types of dolls are made for teachers can include

How these media can help in improving teaching in learning?

• Textbook provides a solid foundation for pupils’ learning and a way to add information and knowledge.

• Act as a stimulant to attract students to a new topic or a particular school events.

• Most printed materials can be used easily and do not need much explanation.

• Pictures help teachers explain something that may be difficult to be described by words, such as the English proverb says a picture is worth a thousand words.

• Realia help learning certain subjects more easily and to build an associative bridge between the classroom and the world.

• 3D objects can support other materials such as textbooks and contribute to concrete experience, and provides a stimulus for creativity and expression.
