First let's understand what are bonds and green bonds.
Companies and Government organizations needs a lot of money. The
amount required by these large companies or government
organizations is so high that it cannot be provided by Banks in form of
loan. So these companies and government organizations turn up to
public. They release something called bond. People/Investors buys
that bond and in return they receive interest from companies after
certain time. Companies that releases the bond are called the issuer.
So what are green bonds?
A green bond is a bond which is issued for the development of
brownfield sites. Brownfield sites are areas of land that are under
utilized, have abandoned buildings, or are under developed. They often
contain low levels of industrial pollution.
