1. Keep mosquitoes away by planting lemongrass. Get the mature plant from your grocery store, remove the dead parts, trim the top and place in water. Keep in a well lit area for a few weeks till you see the roots develop, then plant.

2. Get some glow-in-the-dark paint and paint decorative planters to place along garden paths, for cheap and alternative lighting along walk ways.

3. Use an old kayak, wheelbarrow or bathtub for planting herbs, vegetables or other delicious edibles.




4. Grab an old four-poster bed and transform it into a sheltered, outdoor reading lounge.

5. Use old, rustic doors for separating garden spaces or as table tops rested on dead tree stumps.

6. Look around for decorative bird cages at yard sales, use then to contain plants in smaller pots for more delicate plants, to be hung from tree branches or hung on a wall.
