October 2014 Dear Friends of Education: Please join us Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 in the Golden Eagle Ballroom at California State University, Los Angeles in honoring five individuals who have made major contributions to local education. The annual Distinguished Educators Award Dinner is a prestigious event that recognizes the professional achievements of highly accomplished educational leaders in our community. The event this year is also the 25th anniversary of this momentous celebration. This year, the Distinguished Educator Award is presented to Ms. Susanna Contreras Smith, Superintendent of Education in the Montebello Unified School District. The Distinguished Community Service Awards will be presented to Dr. Susan Kumar, Director of Center for Autism and Related Services, and Mr. Ken Fong and Mrs. Ei Akiko Fong, Parent Advocates for Inclusive Education for the Charter College of Education. These individuals will join a long list of previous honorees whose names are presented each year. Finally, a Distinguished Service Award will also be presented to Dr. Diane L. Fazzi, Associate Dean of the Charter College of Education. The evening begins with a reception and silent auction at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and a formal program at 6 p.m. All proceeds from this event will support student scholarships and faculty development in the Charter College of Education. We invite you to share in this event by attending the dinner and/or purchasing a table. You can also purchase an advertisement in the event tribute journal. Individuals and corporations have an added opportunity to be a part of our scholarship program through the purchase of a Scholarship Circle. This option, in addition to securing a preferred table for ten and a full-page advertisement, immediately establishes an endowed scholarship in the donor’s name. Friends of the Charter College of Education is a support group of alumni, educators, and community members whose principal objective is to provide scholarship assistance to students enrolled in the Charter College of Education. The Friends also support Charter College of Education faculty members in their professional development activities.
