Analysis Questions and Analysis Questions and AnswersAnswers1. Describe and reflect upon problems that came about during the project.

• During this project one of the problems that came up was not having enough time. We ended up getting a showing of our house really late and so then we had a very limited amount of time to do the calculations and such. Thankfully, our teacher allowed us to have an extension on the project so that we were fully prepared to present when the time came. Also, we had some difficulties with the online program that we used to design our floor plan, but that was really just our misunderstanding of the program and we didn’t have past experience functioning it and so we had to teach ourselves as we went.

2. What other issues or problems can you foresee if you were actually doing the work yourself and/or contracting someone to do the work? How might you deal with those issues? What would be potential consequences of those issues?• I think that one of the largest issues that could arise if I was actually doing this work to a house

or I was paying someone else to do it for me would be miscommunication. For example, if I wanted to have tile in the kitchen, but they wanted to do cork because they thought it suited the personality of the house better, than there would be miscommunication and frustration all around. I think that one way I would be able to cope with this is simple patience. If I was paying someone else to make my house just the way I want it, I am sure that there would be some struggle with making sure my idea stayed on top. The only logical way to deal with this sort of thing is by being patient and willing to be open to new ideas as well as going through my plans multiple times to make sure both of us know what is expected. One consequence of this issue would be that I, as a customer, would be dissatisfied with the service, and that could in turn effect the company or individuals reputation.

Analysis Questions and Answers Analysis Questions and Answers ContinuedContinued3. Would you consider carrying out this project in your real life in

the future? Why or why not?• After going through this difficult and extremely tedious project I feel that

I would only pursue this in real life if I had a lot of time on my hands and I was really needing a change. One reason I would be hesitant to fully jump into a project like this in my future is because of all of the precision required for the project. In our scaled-down class project, we were able to estimate and round a lot, but if it was my actual house, I feel that I would be much more accurate which would take even more time than we took for our project. Also, realistically speaking, in the future I am going to be hesitant to perform such renovations upon my house due to the cost of the improvements I would like to make.

4. Explain the value of knowledge and awareness you gained doing this project.

• I used to want to be an architect but after undertaking this project I feel I have gained some real insight about how hard that career would be. Thanks to this project and my teacher for making the requirements so elite, I don’t believe I will be pursuing the career of an architect any time soon. Also, I didn’t necessarily gain knowledge, but I gained a lot of extra practice at calculating area and converting square inches to square feet, which may prove useful to me for what ever reason in the future.

5. Do you think the “house-flip” undertaking is a wise financial decision? Why or why not?

• I feel that over all it is a good financial decision to buy and remodel the house and then sell it for more. When you buy a house for a certain cost and then you are able to sell it for more, you are making a profit instead of losing money. Also this is a smart choice because if you can improve the house enough than you will not only be making back what you paid for the original house, you will also be getting more back because you increased the value of the house.
