Col Chris Addiers (° 16-09-1956) has been the Chief Fire Officer of the Antwerp City and Port Fire and Rescue Service since May 2002 till he retired in 2016. From 1999 to 2001 he was appointed as liaison officer for the Belgian Fire Services in the cabinet of the minister of Home Affairs. After he finished his Master in Civil Engineering at the Louvain University in 1979, he started his career in the Antwerp City and Port Fire and Rescue Service as a fire prevention officer. In 1988 he moved to the operational service as a Divisional Officer. In 1994 he served one year in the Fire Service of Hasselt. After 13 years as Divisional Officer he became Divisional Commander before being appointed as Chief Fire Officer in 2002. He teached various topics on safety related issues such as fire protection, Hazmat, fire tactics and crisis management in the Belgian fire academies and also the Antwerp University. From 2004 he participated in the Federal Steering Committee which finally lead to the organisational reform of the Civil Safety in Belgium on 2015 January the 1st. Chris Addiers is president of the FEU, the Federation of the European Union Fire Officer Associations, since October 2014. He was re-elected in November 2017 for another 3 year mandate. At this stage, FEU connects the fire service leadership in 24 European countries which shortly will extend to 26.
