At Girl Scout camp, we’re deploying new ways to test girls’ determination and develop their imagination while building inner strength. The camp community encourages teamwork while growing independence - girls become more responsible for themselves and for others. Our camps are where girls get to try new things and overcome fears while gaining confidence. It’s where girls will make new friends in an environment just for girls.

This book lists all summer programs for girls currently in grades K-5. To view the Camp Book for girls in grades 6-12 visit gsbadgerland.org and click the ‘Camp’ tab.

Long summer days packed with excitement and challenges. Leisurely star-lit nights

shared around a campfire.

The overnights spent at Girl Scout camp are consistently cited as girls’ favorite

memories of their Girl Scout years.

Resident camps Ehawee and Black Hawk are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Accreditation is earned only after successfully meeting ACA’s high standards during an extensive review. These strict requirements are recognized nationally. Additionally, all camps including Brandenburg, White Pines Ranch, Eagle Bluff and Stronghold Camp meet safety standards set forth by Girl Scouts of the USA and county and state regulations.

HERE’S A NEW TOOL FOR PARENTS:Introducing “Levels”At Girl Scouts, all programming is ‘progressive’. That means the activities and experiences build on each other - as she gains new knowledge or a new skill she then is ready to take the next step and ‘progress’ to a higher level of activity or experience. In the Girl Scout Camp World, the lingo for this is Outdoor Experience Progression. In a nutshell, it means that your girl may be ready for a Level 1 experience or Level 3 or even a Level 5. You are the expert on your girl and her level of adventurousness; use the Level Guide as a tool to help determine which camp is right for her. Review the chart below to help you gauge which level camps your girl is ready to tackle. All the programs in this Camp Book are assigned a level. If you have questions about Camp Program Levels, please connect with us anytime: [email protected].

*A Community-Hosted Girl Scout event refers to a local gathering of Girl Scout troops. For example: Troops in Stoughton get together annually for a Girl Scout community-wide event focused on campfire and outdoor skills at a local park.

Health and Safety Our camps meet stringent county, state and national standards. Camp Ehawee, our resident camp, is accredited by the American Camp Association meeting all safety guidelines. When your girl is at camp, a health supervisor is always on duty.

Our Camp StaffAll staff members go through an intense screening, selection and training process. Most of our camp counselors are college students and aspiring teachers and outdoor educators. Camp leadership staff are professionals eager to provide amazing opportunities for your girl. A big percentage of staff are former Girl Scout campers and some even come from overseas which is so exciting for the girls!

Camp staff participate in two weeks of training covering topics like camper behavior and support, creating a safe space, outdoor activities, group dynamics, emergency procedures and much more.

Cost of Camp | Same, Simplified Lower Prices!Again this summer, most overnight resident camps are $65 per night. That means a two-night camp is $130, a three-night camp is $195 and a five-night camp is $325.

The cost of camp is subsidized by Badgerland Council. We firmly believe these overnight programs and experiences are important to the Girl Scout experience which is why we underwrite camp. Put simply, the cost of operating the camp program is much greater than the fee you pay. If you want to add a camp donation to help offset the full cost, you will have the option to do so when you register her for camp. And, because we want girls to experience camp, Campership scholarships are available to families in need. See details on page 38.

She Can Earn Her Way to Camp With CookiesGirls are strongly encouraged to earn all or part of their way to camp through cookie and ‘in a nutshell’ sales. Paying for all or a portion of her camp program instills independence, pride and self-confidence. See more details about how she can earn Badgerland Bucks to pay for camp by selling cookies on page 38.

Special NeedsIf your camper has special needs, including food allergies, health care or mobility limitations please notify us in advance. Badgerland Council will seek to accommodate special needs whenever possible but reserves the right to identify reasonable and prudent accommodations.

What She’ll EatMeals at camp are kid-friendly and healthy. A set menu is prepared for each meal offering balanced choices with a vegetarian option. Most meals are served family-style. Typical meals include chicken fingers, tacos and sloppy joes. And, of course, there are plenty of veggies, too! At Camp Ehawee, meals are served in Hope Lodge and at Brandenburg they are at Hilltop Lodge. You will have an opportunity before camp to communicate any food allergies or other special food needs for your campers.

Who Attends CampGirl Scout camp is for all girls in grades K-12. Girls who are not already members of Girl Scouts simply pay the $35 Girl Scout membership dues prior to camp registration.

CAMP BRANDENBURG - Town of Dane, WI (near Middleton) - Dane County FEATURES & SLEEPING QUARTERS Camp Brandenburg is about 20 minutes north of Madison on 178 acres that feature hiking trails meandering through towering trees. The camp is located on beautiful Lake Katrine where thousands of Girl Scouts have learned to canoe through the years. Brandenburg is home to an open-air shelter that hosts many Girl Scout picnics. Hilltop Lodge is a fun space that girls love because the hallways literally climb up the hillside to four bunkhouses that sleep campers. Most meals are eaten in Hilltop.

Campers sleep in bunk beds at either Hilltop or Hawks Nest with other girls in her age group. Both Brandenburg sleeping units have electricity and bathrooms with flush toilets and shower access.

What Time is Camp Brandenburg Check-in?Many different camp sessions are held at Camp Brandenburg with different check-in times. All parents will receive an Information Packet about their girls’ camp including arrival and departure times. An Information Packet is emailed to you and will be available online in May.

MEET THE CAMPSCAMP EHAWEE - Mindoro, WI - La Crosse County

FEATURES & SLEEPING QUARTERS Camp Ehawee (pronounced e-how-e) is home to a swimming pool, nature trails, archery range, athletic fields, an arts building and indoor nature center. Ehawee campers canoe on a tributary of the Black River and creek hop at Crystal Creek. There is an impressive amphitheater where the entire camp gathers for the traditional Girl Scout’s Own Ceremony. Camp also features a performing arts center with a stage where many a girl has conquered her stage fright for the first time. Meals are usually eaten in Hope Lodge.

Campers live in a bunkhouse, cabins, platform tents, yurt or teepees with other girls in her age group. All sleeping areas have bathrooms with electricity, flush toilets and there is a central shower house. Upon arrival at camp, each girl is assigned to a group that is led by counselors - these same camp counselors will be with the girls for the duration of their time at camp including during themed activities and sleep time.

What Time is Camp Ehawee Check-in?Parents drop off their campers late afternoon on Sunday and pick-up is mid-afternoon on her last day. Specific drop-off, pick-up times and bus schedules will be available after registration. All the details about check-in, check-out and her daily schedule will be included in her Information Packet emailed to you. There’s just one prerequisite for the girls coming to summer PA training: be motivated to learn how to lead younger girls and aspire to be a future role model to campers. Still reading? Great!

PA Campers will explore their talents at leading songs and games and they’ll get a chance to not only do arts and crafts then, importantly, how to teach it to others. One of the most popular segments of PA Training is when the girls get to dive into some pretty hefty and fascinating topics including girl development, communication skills and behavior management. Of course, it’s not all about “training”—PA campers will still have plenty of time to go swimming, hiking, shoot archery, enjoy campfires and play gaga.

And she’ll be at camp during SuperGIRLs week. How cool is that?

QuestFest is an awesome event where Girl Scouts from around the country compete in an epic scavenger hunt throughout the city’s famous Historic District and beyond. The twist?? Girls will be hunting for experiences and doing good deeds in this awesome ‘Quest’ taking girls around the city to landmarks including Juliette Gordon Low’s birthplace. The rousing trip includes an inspirational QuestFest Opening Ceremony with Girl Scouts from around the country. There’s tons of stuff planned, including a riverboat dinner cruise down the Savannah River. Is your troop bridging in the summer? We’ll all participate in a memorable Bridging Ceremony on the Talmadge Bridge and enjoy a super special dolphin-spotting boat trip. We’ll have twilight camping, swimming, SWAPS, and even an outdoor concert just for Girl Scouts. WOW! Don’t miss this truly once-in-a-lifetime Girl Scout trip.

• Through her sales, she can choose Badgerland Bucks as her rewards. Badgerland Bucks are virtual dollars that can be redeemed to pay for any Badgerland program, her Girl Scout membership dues and Girl Scout merchandise. Hop on a bus to camp for transportation that’s fun for girls and easy for parents! Camp counselors or trained adult volunteers supervise the ride, play road trip games and sing songs with the girls to kickstart their camp experience.

CAMP BUSING

You can choose to sign her up for transportation about a month before camp. HOW IT WORKS: We know it’s way too early to decide if you want to drive her to camp or send her on the bus. That’s why we wait until a month before her camp starts to ask you. Look for an email about 4 weeks before camp which will list your transportation options. If you choose the bus, you register and pay all in one transaction. If you want to take her and pick her up yourself, that’s great too! Parents always have the option to drop off or pick up at camp. Parents who choose to drop off their campers, also have the option to tour the camp and visit her sleeping area to see where she’s staying.

Transportation for Camp Ehawee resident campers is available to and from camp for $25.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can my camper be in the same unit as her friend or sister? You may request up to three buddies and we will do our best to make sure that they are able to be placed together in the same cabin or group (at a day program). Buddy requests are made in CampDoc. See page 39 for info about CampDoc.

My daughter’s best friend is not a Girl Scout but she wants to go to camp with my girl. Can she? Yes! We welcome all girls. Girls who are not already registered as Girl Scouts will simply pay the $35 membership fee to their camp registration. It’s easiest for non-Girl Scouts to call us and we’ll help get them signed up on the phone: 800.236.2710.

Can my daughter bring her cell phone or other technology to camp?Sorry. Camp is a screen-free zone for the girls to get them unplugged and reconnected with nature and friends. Please do not send cell phones, tablets, iPods or other electronics to camp. All electronic devices found will be secured in the camp office until the end of her session.

Can I visit the camp?Absolutely! We strongly encourage you and your girl to visit her camp before her session or come to an Open House if you are just thinking about signing her up. We are hosting Open Houses at both Camp Ehawee and Camp Brandenburg so parents and girls can tour the camps and meet some of the staff. Details are on page 5. When camp is in session, only campers and staff are on-site.

Additionally, if you want to bring your camper to camp instead of sending her on the Badgerland Bus, you are welcome to tour the camp at drop-off and see her sleeping area and the rest of the facility.

What happens if my child needs medical attention while at camp?A Health Supervisor is always on-site at camp and oversees the routine health care and administration of medications for all campers and staff. A doctor is on-call if illness or injury requires additional medical attention. Parents will be notified in the event of an emergency.

How will my child be supervised? Our camp staff is trained to supervise campers to make sure they are properly fitted for a life jacket, but also making sure they are changing their clothes every day, drinking water and applying sunscreen. Girl Scouts places the highest priority on safety and train staff in all aspects of camp life.

Can I call camp to check on my camper?Of course! We encourage you to contact the Camp Director at camp, if you have any questions, concerns or just need reassurance that your camper is doing well. Conversely, we will reach out to you in the event we need to provide extra support to your camper due to homesickness, illness, or serious injury.

How can I stay in touch with my camper while she’s at camp?Your camper would LOVE to get mail from you or other family members while at camp! You can send letters directly to camp during her session or even prior to her session. You may also bring your letters when you drop her off for camp and camp staff will distribute them to her throughout the week.

You may even be able to see photos of your camper during her time at camp. The camp staff take photos and post them occasionally during the week on a secure site. You will be emailed the login to the photo site before the start of her camp session.
