    I. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

    The Korean Government Scholarship Program is designed to provide higher education in Korea for international

    students with the aim of promoting international exchange in education, as well as mutual friendship amongst the

    participating countries.

    o Program host of the Korean Government and the University in Korea

    - National Institute for International Education (NIIED), under Ministry of Education

    - Pai Chai University (PCU)

    o Scholarship Program

    - Compulsory Korean Language Program (01.09.2018~31.08.2020): 1 year of Korean language course

    - Masters (01.09.2020~31.08.2022): 2 years of Masters program

    - Doctoral (01.09.2020~31.08.2023): 3 years of Doctoral program

    o Scholarship Amount

    (KRW: Korean Won / approximate exchange rate: US$1=1,200 KRW)

    o How to Apply: You must choose only 1 (one) method from below option A or B.

    Option A [University Track]: Sending application materials to Pai Chai University in Korea.

    * PCU can recommend only eligible candidates to the NIIED.

    * Application period at PCU: February 05th

    (Monday) ~ March 9th

    (Friday), 2018

    Option B [Embassy Track]: Sending applications to the nearby Korean embassy (or consulate)

    in/from your country.

    * With this track, you may apply up to THREE universities in Korea including Pai Chai University.

    * You may contact the Korean embassy (or consulate) in your country for the details.

    - NIIED will select the successful candidates.

    If you submit applications to both (more than one) institutions will be disqualified and discarded

  • immediately.

    The Embassy Track applicants must submit their application documents to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in their respective countries of citizenship. Please see Appendix B for the list of Korean Embassies.

    Refer to the section VI for the details on the application procedure. The quota allocation is decided based on the mutual agreements on cultural and education cooperation

    between Korea and the countries listed above.

    Among the assigned 470 Embassy track quota, 20 are separately reserved for the overseas Korean adoptees(Overseas Korean included) from 18 countries. The overseas Korean adoptees submit their

    applications to the Korean embassies in 18 countries where they hold citizenship and will be selected from

    their own applicant pool. (Refer to the below chart)

    * Attention! Overseas Koreans refer to ethnic Koreans who do not own Korean citizenships. They include Korean adoptees and offspring of Korean diaspora or Korean immigrants who live in countries out of the Korean

    peninsula.

    (2) Embassy Track Quota for Overseas Korean Adoptees: 20 Candidates from 18 Countries(Overseas Koreans Included)
