NTDC/NSVDC Breakfast of Champions Keynote Speaker Investment: $15,000

This year’s motivational Breakfast of Champions keynote speaker is Colonel Mike Mullane. Mullane graduated from West Point in 1967 and was commissioned in the United States Air Force. As a Weapon Systems Operator aboard RF-4C Phan-tom aircraft, he completed 134 combat missions in Vietnam. He holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineer-ing from the Air Force Institute of Technology and is also a graduate of the Air Force Flight Test Engineer School at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

Mullane was selected as a Mission Specialist in 1978 in the first group of Space Shuttle Astronauts. He completed three space missions and logged 356 hours in space aboard the Shuttles Discovery (STS-41D) and Atlantis (STS-27 & 36) before retiring from NASA and the Air Force in 1990.

Mullane has been inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame and is the recipient of many awards, including the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit and the NASA Space Flight Medal.

Since his retirement from NASA, Colonel Mullane has written an award-winning children’s book, Liftoff! An Astronaut’s Dream, and a popular space-fact book, Do Your Ears Pop In Space? Mullane has also served as a host for Inside Space, a nationally syndicated cable television program of the USA Network. His wonderfully entertaining presentations of Stories From Space have been eagerly solicited by organizations of all kinds - from Fortune 500 companies to professional associations; from societies to schools and universities.

As a professional speaker, Colonel Mullane has thrilled tens of thousands of adults and a half-million children with his inspira-tional, motivational and humorous descriptions of the astronaut experience.

Professional Excellence Award Investment: $5,000The Neill Darmstadter Professional Excellence Award recognizes the driver judged to best exemplify the characteristics of a professional truck driver based on their driving record; skill; knowledge; attitude towards safety; and, personality, as evidenced by their work history, performance in various NTDC skills tests, and overall professionalism.

Vehicle Condition Award Investment: $5,000 The Vehicle Condition Award is presented to the driver judged to possess the highest knowledge and have taken the great-est care of his/her equipment, enabling him/her to maintain a safe and efficient vehicle, as determined from his/her pre-trip inspection methods.

State Team Trophy Investment: $5,000The State Team Trophy is awarded to the team of state champions achieving the highest average score at the national cham-pionships. The state trucking association and each driver of the winning state team receive a plaque.

Rookie of the Year Award Investment: $5,000The National Rookie of the Year Award is presented to the driver who has competed for the first time in both a state truck driving championship and NTDC, and who earned the most points over and above the average semi-final score for his or her class. The winner receives a plaque.

Life-Time Volunteer Award Investment: $5,000The NTDC Life-Time Volunteer Award goes to the NTDC volunteer(s) whose career-long, exemplary efforts have contributed to the overall success of the championships. The winner receives a plaque.

The crew will also be on hand at the awards banquet to capture the highlights from the NTDC/NSVDC’s most anticipated event, and will include that video to produce the final, 9 ½ minute highlights DVD.
