FOREWORD BY THE RECTOR UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MARA CAWANGAN MELAKA

Congratulations to the Research and Industry Linkages Division of UiTM Cawangan Melaka, or better

known as PJI, for the publication of PJI EDGe in 2018. As the second edition of the bulletin that shows the

performance of PJI in 2017, it is a wonderful experience to see the improvement that PJI has

accomplished for the past one year.

Three decades after the establishment of UiTM Cawangan Melaka in 1984, PJI has uplifted this institution

to a higher level through stories of joys, hard work, determination and excitements. PJI has proven that it

is indeed one of the backbones that helps elevate UiTM Cawangan Melaka especially in the areas of

research, invention and innovation, entrepreneurs’ development and industrial linkages. It is also a good

move by PJI to record their annual performance, as it can be a benchmark for future performance

indicators.

Last but not least, my special thanks go to all the PJI teams who have worked so hard to meet the

indicators specified. My heartfelt appreciation also goes to all the committee members of PJI EDGe who

have invested a lot of time and energy to ensure the success of this publication. May all your good deeds

be accepted and may Allah reward all of us with His blessings.

Sincerely,

DATUK ASSOC. PROF. SABARIAH HJ MAHAT

FOREWORD BY THE DEPUTY RECTOR (RESEARCH & INDUSTRY LINKAGES) UNIVERSITY TEKNOLOGI MARA CAWANGAN MELAKA

Let me first congratulate the UiTM Cawangan Melaka workforces who have put in concerted effort to bring forth the aims of PJI through research, publication, consultancy, entrepreneurial activities, community work, and also industry linkages. This report is also the result of the cooperation and tireless efforts of eight PJI units who effectively executed their well-laid strategic planning. In essence, PJI must realize three outcomes to fulfill its mission.

The first outcome is to increase Bumiputra graduates employability. This is achieved by encouraging the academicians to strengthen their teaching and learning strategies via involvement as field experts with the local and international industries. It is also important to secure industrial and university collaborations through MoU and MoA. Such collaborations provide great opportunities for students to participate in joint programs such as entrepreneurship and student mobility. Emphasis is also given to organization of high impact programs, especially those that involved entrepreneurial acculturation and community service as they are capable of developing social skills and self competence of students.

Another outcome of PJI is to generate new knowledge and knowledge expansion to determine a higher MyRA score for UiTM. This can be achieved by our involvement in research, consultative projects, and the publication of high impact journals. If achievable, our academic expertise will be recognized, providing the avenue for commercializing UiTM at the industrial and international levels.

Establishing university excellence through innovation is the third outcome that PJI has to fulfill. This is attainable only with a considerable involvement of UiTM graduates in Bumiputera Commercial and Industrial Community (BCIC). I am proud to note that this report shows that we have successfully achieved the specified outcomes. This feat could only be realized with the existence of excellent academia and students. Congratulations to everyone involved in this endeavor. I hope that PJI will continue to produce exemplary work for years to come.

Thank you.

About RMU Research Management Unit (RMU) is one of the main units under the Division of Research and Industrial Linkages. There are four main sub-units under RMU. (1) Grant (Private and Government) Unit, (2) Innovation and Commercialization Unit, (3) Consultancy and Research Contract Unit and (4) Centre of Excellence Unit. The Reporting Unit is an ad-hoc unit under RMU. Grant (Private and Government) Unit This unit is set up to encourage and facilitate research activities through organizing training programmes, sharing sessions and coordinating internal resources to support the research activities. This unit actively shares any information and updates regarding opening of grant application from any organisations. Moreover, this unit also organizes yearly internal assessment workshop to help the lecturers polish their Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) application. Innovation and Commercialization Unit The main activity under this unit is to organize the Melaka International Intellectual Exposition (MIIEx), that is the innovation competition. Apart from that, this unit is also responsible to identify and select innovation products for commercialization and application of intellectual property (IP). Besides, several innovation related workshops are held with the purpose of communicating important information regarding the procedures and documents needed in applying for the IP. Consultancy and Research Contract Unit The main objective of this unit is to share information and to provide trainings in relation to consultation projects which cover basic briefing, financial management and marketing of expertise. Through the unit, more consultation projects could be developed and more collaboration with government agencies, private companies, statutory bodies and multinational companies could be established. Centre of Excellence Unit This unit is responsible to assist any lecturers who wish to set up the special interest group (SIG). It helps with the submission process and monitor the status for each SIG submission with the Research Management Centre in Shah Alam. The establishment of SIG at each faculty level will help to enliven the research activities and produce more publications of research work.

MoU or Memorandum of Understanding is a budding unit under the Division of Research and Industrial Linkages of UiTM Cawangan Melaka. Albeit a relatively recent unit, its achievement and contributions to the university is applaudable as proven by the number of MoUs signed and activities carried out by the unit every year. Several MoUs have been signed between UiTM Cawangan Melaka and other teaching and learning institutions. These include universities from Indonesia, Turkey, and Australia, on top of the industrial linked institutions such as Armadillo Safety, Maltesas, among others.

In 2017, an official visit was made to three universities in Semarang, Indonesia from 27th to 31st March, headed by the Rector of UiTM Cawangan Melaka – Datuk Assoc. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UiTM Cawangan Melaka and Universitas Islam Sultan Agong (UNISSULA) during the visit. A visit was also made to UiTM Cawangan Melaka MoU long time partner, Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo. The delegates met the top management of UIN Walisongo to discuss possible collaborations in research writing and mobility programmes involving staff and students. Below is the list of the universities visited and the outcomes from the official trip: Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) – Forum Speaker, joint research and publications, mobility programmes, Dies Natalis (52 Convocations), and co-organizer for the conference in October 2018. Universitas Islam Sultan Agong (UNISSULA) – MoU signing, joint publications, research collaborations and mobility programmes. Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Walisongo – Joint publications, research collaborations and mobility programmes. In addition, UiTM Cawangan Melaka has taken part as the co organizer for the 2nd International Conference on Economics, Education, Business and Accounting (ICEEBA 2017) from 27th to 30th October 2017 at Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) Makassar, Indonesia. Intervarsity International Internship 2017

Since MoU in itself is a record of intention between UiTM Cawangan Melaka and its partner institutions to strengthen ties between them, undoubtedly, the MoU Unit plays an important role to UiTM Cawangan Melaka. Although it has just started spreading its wings, the potential collaborations sealed with the signings of MoUs are valuable for both UITM Cawangan Melaka and the institutions involved. (ITHC
