Learning OutcomesUpon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

• Recognize the most likely cause of diplopia in adults following cataract surgery.

• Determine when referral is warranted in children with ophthalmic findings suggestive of neurologic disease.

• Define what “MISS” or minimally invasive strabismus surgery is.

• Identify the bacteria most commonly responsible for orbital cellulitis.

• Recognize the anatomical landmarks for evaluating canalicular lacerations.

• Identify treatment options for photophobia associated with benign essential blepharospasm.

• Describe the general components of fibrin tissue adhesives.

• List an adverse effect of calcineurin inhibitors.

• Describe the differences between IOL and pharmacologic based presbyopia treatments.

Directions to the Hilton Garden InnFrom the North: Take the Adirondack Northway/NY Route 87, South, to Exit 7/Route 7, east towards Troy/Cohoes. Follow Route 7 over Route 787, about 5 miles. At the bottom of the bridge, go straight through the light and proceed up the hill on Hoosick Street. The Hilton Garden Inn - Troy will be three quarters of a mile up the hill on the left hand side.

From the South: Take the New York State Thruway/I-87 North towards Albany. Merge onto I-787 North, via Exit 23 towards Downtown Albany/Rensselaer/Troy, for about 9 miles. Merge onto NY 7 via Exit 9E towards Troy/Bennington. Go east, up the hill, on Hoosick Street, at the light at the bottom of the bridge. The Hilton Garden Inn - Troy will be three quarters of a mile up the hill on the left hand side.

Dr. Agnes Wong, MD, PhD, received her undergraduate degree from Boston University. She then obtained her MD degree from McGill University and completed her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto, where she also completed a PhD in Neuroscience and clinical fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology. Dr. Wong then completed a combined research and clinical fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Wong is currently Professor and Vice Chair, Research and Academic Affairs of the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at the University of Toronto. She is the Ophthalmologist-in-Chief and the John and Melinda Thompson Chair in Vision Neurosciences at the The Hospital For Sick Children. Dr. Wong is also a senior scientist at both The Hospital For Sick Children and the Toronto Western Hospital. Dr. Wong is a clinician-scientist and one of a handful of clinicians in the world who dedicate their clinical practice to pediatric Neuro-Ophthalmology and strabismus. Her research focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms of different forms of strabismus, abnormal eye movements, and amblyopia. Dr. Wong has held many peer-reviewed grants, including grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canada Foundation for Innovation, and National Institutes of Health in the USA. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and she has single-authored a textbook entitled “Eye Movement Disorders”. Her work has been recognized by a number of organizations, including a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, an inaugural Young Investigator Award from the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, a Young Investigator Award from the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, as well as an Early Researcher Award from the Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovation. She is a much sought-after speaker who has delivered over 140 invited lectures. Despite her busy research and clinical activities, Dr. Wong also dedicates herself to the training and mentoring of future generations of physicians and scientists. She has received numerous prestigious awards in recognition of her high quality of clinical teaching and research supervision.
