I learned about the Beagle voyage after visiting a science museum

several years ago. It showed Darwins journey through life as well as on the

seas. Then, slowly through growth, I began to be more and more intrigued in

evolution and I ket asking myself some of the !uestions man sought to

answer since the birth of civili"ation# where did we come from, and why are

we here$ I have found satisfactory answers, but only to raise more !uestions

all the while thinking about Darwin, is he right$ I knew that to gain a

greater and more educated ersective on the con%ict between science and

religion, I must study the ast. Thus I traced the e&ects to the cause, thus I

was able to narrow the toic down to the Beagle in 'outh (merica.

I sent most of my research browsing many rich databases andarchives online. They contained original ublications of )it"roy, as well as

Darwins own accounts of the Beagle *oyage. +owever, these rimary

resources were a little unorgani"ed and harder to etract information from.

This led me to a secondary site created by a scholar who was, like me, very

interested in Darwin. +e gave detailed mas, as well as details down to

everyday observations regarding the Beagle. (fter gaining all of this

knowledge, I came to where I started the imact of the voyage. +ere I not

only read many of Darwins aers, but also how events unfolded for )it"roy

who has an e!ually remarkable story, as I found out after reading some

articles as well as -ilberforces review of /n the /rigin of 'ecies0.

( website can incororate multimedia and is interactive, thus

enhancing a readers understanding. The making of the website started 1rst

with utting a basic summary of each age, then adding !uotes, then

images, and 1nally multimedia.

The Beagle relates to this years theme due to the fact that it was an

eloration of the 'outh (merican coastline, while Darwin encountered the

wonders of nature 23alaagos4. The Beagle also continued an ongoing

echange with native settlers, this is shown in the four )uegians taken by

)it"roy and educated in 5ngland.
